SternSkipper -> STD Outing website gives one pause interms of thinking about the social politics of the web (3/12/2012 1:59:57 PM)

Before I say my piece, let's just get past the inevitable time-wasting some posters will feel compelled Blather on about 'nothing is safe on the web' ... We get that, spare us your own special "for dummies" slone... okay?

So here's the deal, this guy has published this site where you can register under a handle just like here and you can then in turn post to a discussion database accusing some man or woman by name (along with other personal information apparently).
Pretty fucked up on it's own ... but then I saw this guy on Anderson Cooper and he's a completely obtuse freak. Won't even own that it's his site that is ruining people's lives and indicates the injured parties are the ones with a problem and that they should take it up with the Poster.
The site is:

http://stdcarriers.com

I doubt this'll be up a whole lot longer in it's present form, since they had an attorney on the show that looked like she was gonna go all Jim Sokolove n'shit as soon as the show is over.
But it makes you wonder how many things like this site are really out there and how much they are paid attention to.

Definitely a fucked up idea. My guess is the guy got the Clap after a blind date and now wants to be an activist.

I know this isn't your primary focus on this thread but it used to be that people would ask for a simple blood test before banging someone they met on the web. Do we really need to broadcast someone else's personal problems under the guise of public safety? I say, "Not".

A defamation/libel suit waiting to happen.

Or before banging somebody we meet anywhere, not just the web.

It is only defamation/libel if it turns out to be untrue or if it is true but the person doing it did so with mailicious intent. I wasn't able to click on the link so, I don't know what the tone of the link is but there's an old saying in journalism: "The best defense against a libel suit is that you told the truth"

Peace and comfort,

Michael

True. Apparently I was too focused on the "web" aspect of this post.

Well... Opportunist is the correct label since he's using it to make money "Getting people unlisted" through ab alleged 3rd party service he admitted owning on the show, if I heard correctly.

Yeah? What about in cases where the injured party simply says it's not so? You're posting your usual SUPPOSITIONAL junk that allows a little cavorting in the world of legal acumen.
So far, doesn't seem to be much indicating ANY listings there could stand up to simple denial of the claim. He certainly possesses no special knowledge of the situation from which these "postings" arise. So when they're challenged, and he doesn't act, blam... He's blown it
