We've come a long way in our attitudes about sex and the office -- but not far enough. An expert explains

...If you look at guidebooks in the ’20s and ’30s designed for women workers they say: “It’s likely you’ll encounter a Felix the Feeler, but it’s your job as a modern woman to know how to handle him.” They also advise: “if you can’t deal with Felix the Feeler on your own, you’re going to have to quit because men are the valued employees.” In addition, you see the rise of psychiatry, which diagnoses these men as suffering from a midlife crisis. The problem with that is it says: “This is temporary behavior; we as a society don’t need to see it as a social problem. This man is going through a midlife crisis, eventually he’ll come out of it, and meanwhile the modern girl should be able to handle it.” It absolves the man for any responsibility and says it’s up to the woman to handle his behavior.

"Lust pirates"! LOVE that.

When I think back the crap I put up with in my first job as a teenager, working in an office... well, it's pretty obvious that I would have done well in the '20's. That sort of thing never happened again, and there have been plenty of offices in my life. At some point in the mid-90's the company I worked for got all serious about the sexual harassment thing, and there were little guidelines, and warnings to not be forward with either gender. We made it a point to "sexually harass" the men by complimenting them on their ties and such like. They were very proud!

America is a strange country. The most basic things, like a safe work environment, are a gigantic issue.

On the other side of the spectrum, I once growled at a female employee that was a total slacker in the lab for not holding up her part of the work load and 2 days later, I was facing termination for "Sexual Harassment"". Trust me on this one. I wouldn't have fucked her with sanity's dick.

I remember you going on about that, Hilly. It's a goofy system all around, and not too many winners.

Makes ya wonder once it's all added up WTF women did to republicans to make em this retaliatory?
Or is it just them getting their dicks caught in their bibles and blaming Eve?

A former employer had mandatory sexual harassment courses. I attended the course and was amused to find out it was strictly about how to identify when you were being harassed and what agencies and forms to fill out to get compensation for it.

I tried to point out to one of the directors that the course was counterproductive, in that it focused on telling their own employees how to sue them, and that a better course would be something like "what not to do because you'll get in trouble."

I got an utterly blank stare in return.
