Hillary Clinton:


“Why extremists always focus on women remains a mystery to me,” she told an adoring crowd at the Women in the World Summit at Lincoln Center on Saturday. “But they all seem to. It doesn’t matter what country they’re in or what religion they claim. They want to control women. They want to control how we dress. They want to control how we act. They even want to control the decisions we make about our own health and bodies.

“Yes,” she continued to applause, “it is hard to believe that even here at home, we have to stand up for women’s rights and reject efforts to marginalize any one of us, because America needs to set an example for the entire world.”

In some kind of insane bout of mass misogyny, Republicans are hounding out the women voters — including Republicans and independents — who helped them gain control of the House in 2010.

Senator Olympia Snowe, who’s fed up and leaving Congress, told The Washington Post’s Karen Tumulty that “it feels as if we are going back to another era,” warning that Republicans could drive women into Democratic arms."

There's no mystery here. Men want to control women to make sure that the kid they're squeezing out is OUR kid and not some other guy's.

Of course it is understood that if a man chooses to have sex with a woman and risk her becoming pregnant without having had a vasectomy he has already chosen to relinquish his right to decide at the next step. He has also chosen to father a child and is willing to care for said child until it becomes an adult.

You don't want a woman pregnant? You don't want to be a father? Pay for ye olde snip snip.... or be celibate. Either way.

Only the ignorant want to play money-make-believe to drag us backward from the medical privacy we've spent so much time and energy into establishing. Besides you have no cites to back you're vague conclusion up.

It isn't just economics, DS, except maybe to you. I don't want to pay for unplanned pregnancies. I don't want to pay for people who take unnecessary health risks. And yet, I am being forced to.  Under your logic, shouldn't I have the chance to meddle in other people's personal decisions that might affect how taxes are spent, health care costs, or insurance premiums?

By the way, you look a little pudgy in your picture. You planning on paying for your own heart attack?

Actually, sunshinemiss, if you notice, my comment assigned no gender. I am of the opinion that if a man and woman consent to have sex and that intercourse results in a pregnancy, the man and the woman are both responsible for the costs of that pregnancy, whether it ends in an abortion, a miscarriage, or a live birth. So, if you wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate if you'd not respond to me as if I'm anti-women's rights. It's simply not true.

I see. So, you want to make all the choices and have someone else pay for the consequences. I'd say that is quite interesting, but, alas, it is not. It's sad, really. You want the ability to choose, but not the responsibility to face the consequences of your actions.

You probably find a lot of things tough to comprehend.
But suck on this. If it's the privileged dialog and treatment plan in a general health setting, it's NONE of your business or mine.
In fact, there's already federal statutes covering the issue.

I was kind of thinking in a broader, evolutionary sense.

From an instinctual, evolutionary perspective the purpose of sex is making babies - specifically, your babies. The whole point being to pass on your DNA. When it comes to knowing if the baby is theirs or not, women have a distinct advantage over men for obvious reasons. Until the advent of modern paternity tests, the only way a man could 100% certain that a baby was his was by keeping his mate under eye and under thumb so there would be no chance of any funny business.

All the debates about birth control, abortion, etc are just the surface manifestations of that underlying male fear that the little bundle of joy he is holding may not be his, and his need to be sure.

Does Medicaid cover birth control? I do believe that would be "yes." In that case, it is me and the taxpayers.

I have absolutely no problem with women getting what they need, or what they want. Okay, I do have one little problem. I don't believe I should be paying for them. Let me pay for mine. You pay for yours. that's all I'm saying.
