ORIGINAL: fucktoyprincess I have often wondered how people involved in BDSM in any sort of real way could possibly be socially conservative. Again, just another example of people voting against self-interest. Yet again, it's left to the liberals to protect the rights of everyone else, even those who don't realize they need to protect their rights. Will it ever end? [sm=ofcourse.gif] Think '50's household'. there's no whips, no chains, no kinky sex, just an obedient little Stepford wife who waits on hubby hand and foot. That aspect of WIITWD would fall right in line with the far right. Yes, the "50s household" would - although without any of the other bells and whistles that we would think of as BDSM. Interestingly, I don't actually think of 50s household, in and of itself, as being particularly BDSM. Just my perspective, but I feel that a household structure that has been prevalent in many parts of the world (husband as head of household) does not constitute BDSM. It's just a traditional family structure. I know lots of vanilla people who would fit a 50s household structure (e.g. my grandparents) who had NOTHING to do with BDSM. i.e., husband works, wife stays home and looks after children and household, husband makes major decisions -- what does this have to do with BDSM per se? So, I realize there is a group out there who are into 50s household, but if that is all you are into, I'm hard pressed to feel that that really constitutes BDSM. I also don't equate D/s with 50s household, because D/s is simply a generic term that can be applied to any number of relationships and power structures (i.e., could be two gay men, two lesbian women, a Dominant woman and a submissive man - and NONE of those structures have anything to do with 50s household). I know I'm going to get flack for this, but I really just don't feel it is the same as what I consider BDSM as has evolved from Marquis de Sade, The Story of O, and those sorts of things that involve concepts around power exchange, s&m, bondage, etc - all of which do not have to be part of a "50s household" structure.
