Dutch researchers found that men perform worse on cognitive tasks just by thinking they are being observed by a woman. Jamie Condliffe from Gizmodo writes, - "If you often find yourself stuck for words in the presence of women, don’t beat yourself up; we’ve all been there. But it turns out it’s not you, it’s science! Merely thinking about the presence of women makes men stupid."

Without being able to read the whole report on their research and knowing how research can be done and tainted in my view, I am not going to readily accept this as any sort of fact. Would it be true of the opposite sex, no matter who was being researched? I think so. There are many emotional reasons that can make someone insecure, uptight or feel a number of miscellaneous emotions that could manifest in different ways. They may come from life experience or self talk on things projected as well as good things. Because people might do a certain thing, doesn't give an answer as to why that might be. I find most research lacking.

The idiots doing the test found that men were stupider when being observed by a woman, and concluded that it was the woman's presence that was responsible. Because they didn't do the same test when they were observed by a man, there's no way to tell if it was the observation itself that caused it.

I'm not going to argue with anyone here,hell I'm not even going to the link,I'm just going on record that I am definitely stupider around woman.....and as long as I can convince them that it is their fault....all is good [:)] Oh yeah,as long as "they" accept that the converse is true.....I'm way smarter when "they" aren't around [:D]

Actually, I suspect that the researchers were brilliant, but some woman wandered by and made them dumb up their test.

Except that the "idiots" did exactly what you claim they didn't, as noted in both the linked Gizmodo article and the paper; the experiment had subjects who believed they were under observation by an individual of the same sex as well subjects who believed they were being observed by the opposite sex. The study examined the difference in performance under these different observation cases. A criticism with some actual validity would be caution in generalizing the results. Thank you... At age 21... few have a real confidence when it comes to the opposite sex and lots of inner struggles, overcome. That doesn't surprise me. How many of them got a hard on during the research? [:D]

FR Were there any gay men amongst the test subjects? Reminds me of a joke I heard a gay comedian do about a woman throwing her breasts at him while trying to cut in front of him in a line. His punchline was "Bitch, your powers don't have any effect on me, get your ass to the back of the line."

21 year old males aren't adults yet. Their frontal lobes haven't finished developing. Do it again with guys aged 40 and 60 to see if there's any validity to this. But a bunch of horny barely out of the teen aged years? Not anything worth losing sleep over.
