http://www.npr.org/blogs/itsallpolitics/2012/03/16/148760363/wisconsin-target-of-recall-decides-to-quit-instead

What happens if the target of a recall election decides to call it quits before the actual election?

If it's Wisconsin, the recall election apparently happens anyway.

On Friday, one of four Republican state senators facing a recall election in the next several months, Pam Galloway, announced she was resigning. While the timing of her resignation would make any normally skeptical person wonder if this is a case of a you-can't-fire-me-I-quit exit, she cites family reasons. (Republican Gov. Scott Walker faces a recall vote, too.)

While her resignation doesn't change the fact that a recall election will take place, according to a state official quoted by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, it does create a Wisconsin senate that will be evenly split between Republicans and Democrats with both parties controlling 16 seats apiece. Once the recall election is held, one or the other party will have a one-seat majority.

For the time being, however, the top Republican and top Democrat will be the co-leaders of the chamber. That could prove interesting in a state where the bad blood between the two parties rivals the nation's capital and protests in the past year rocked the statehouse in Madison.

"For the sake of the electorate, I hope that better days are ahead for this institution," Galloway said in her resignation announcement. She clearly didn't plan on waiting around to see that happen, however.

I hope her family issues work out ok,
but... the thot plickens..
oooh this is gonna be a fun year

Putting aside the incorrect assertion that the issue with Sandra Fluke wasn't about medical privacy between patients, their doctors and their insurers, I see no reason to object to this characterization.

They need to elect someone to replace her, so the process would go forward anyhow. One can only hope 'things' are better in Wisconsin, and that it is a harbinger of better times for the whole political scene. Of course, it will only be a 'fun year' if the Dems win. If otherwise, this could be the beginning of a very ugly time.

It's only fun until someone gets hurt. Imagine all those insane bills we've heard of lately becoming the enforced law of the land, and tell me how much 'fun' that will be.

This is no joke: these monsters are dead serious.

You don't usually see someone calling a member of their own party a cunt. Shows character.. of some sort or another.

I was thinking about this. Does anyone see anything significant that she says "Fuck You" to the Republican Party, after the Republicans started their War on Woman. I wonder how many other female GOP legislators are ready to bail on them?

Silentrunner26 -> RE: Wisconsin looses its republican majority, (3/18/2012 4:46:25 AM)

She left early because if they voted her out the all her benifits would be lost . This way she keeps all the goodies she had while in office .

Not necessarily true. There are a total of four republicans being recalled for election (not counting the Governor and Lt. Governor). So theoretically the Dems could take a significant swing in control if all the contests go their way.

subspaceseven -> RE: Wisconsin looses its republican majority, (3/18/2012 8:35:12 AM)

That seems fair, how many of us, if we quit our jobs today would be able to keep all our benefits?

She is claiming family illness, however she was losing in the polls to the women who is/was running against her in the recall election.

Very true, but I was being kind and not mentioning that, .....Im not taking chances on what the people of wisconsin will do, after the last year and a half.
