What are some of the Slang words You used to say,
or remember hearing?

I remeber being at the Parks and Recreation on
spring break as a kid, and this older Girl use
to say "Goonnie Googoo"

To this Day I don't know what that means?

Remember when something was so good it was "bad"?   And something really cool was "rad"?

This one always mystified me... what on earth is so good about "Cool beans!"?  [;)]

ShreveportMaster -> RE: Remeber those old slangs? Ones we use to say. (6/4/2006 1:46:07 PM)

or why was something desirable called "tubular"?

windchymes -> RE: Remeber those old slangs? Ones we use to say. (6/4/2006 4:17:12 PM)

You guys aren't going back far enough.  "Cool beans" and "tubular" were "Far Out" and "Groovy"!

What about     'narly dude'    ? [8|]

zumala -> RE: Remeber those old slangs? Ones we use to say. (6/4/2006 4:44:18 PM)

ARGH!  Don't tell me that's when I picked up the habit of typing 'kewl'!  I was a grammar and spelling nazi, and I have no idea how that one strange little quirk got under my radar, much less into my habits.  LOL.

While I'm aware of the terms 'groovy' and 'far out' their actual popular usage was before my time.  I learned them from watching Scooby Doo so much as a kid.

To reach back again... didn't they used to say 'gee willikers' or something to that effect at some point?  'golly!'

This is of course no surprise as Scooby Doo was, in fact, a child of the 60s.  You all probably think he was from YOUR childhoods...and he was, but in fact he goes back even further.  From "The Straight Dope" website:

  • Scooby originally appeared as a minor character in a late 60s cartoon--supposedly as a contestant in a gameshow. This is according to Hanna-Barbera publicity materials I read some years ago, although to this day I have never seen this cartoon and have no idea what series it is in--and this is coming from a big H&B fan.  So this aspect of the dog's origin remains a mystery.

so in his own way, Scooby was a hipster.

I don't remember too much slang.  I just remember a lot of "Yo Momma" jokes.

    really old biker slang that you hardly ever hear anymore;

    Cage, it means a car

Citizen, means anyone not cool or not a biker

    Hardbelly, means a young honey

    Greybeard, means an older biker
