I stumbled across this as I was idly following links on the web. It looks and sounds disgusting.

Cheesy Ham and Banana Casserole

Now, I get that Paula Deen is the queen of high fat cooking, but if I'm going to eat something with more than one day's worth of fats (just a guess on my part, I don't know the actual nutritional content of this dish), I expect it to be TASTY, not a travesty.

That is a seriously disgusting recipe.
And the picture of it looks worse than
I imagined it would look.
Does she just draw the names of ingredients
out of a hat and call it a recipe?

It would depend on the type of bananas you are using and at what stage of ripeness. One type of banana I use can be cooked basically the same way to make 4 totally different dishes depending on the stage of ripeness. There are dozens of types available as well. Some are ONLY for cooking.

I've got a disgusting one that my (8 year old) brother baked up.

Take the toll house choc chip recipe and add 1/2 cup baking soda instead of 1/2 tsp. Yum yum!

We could fell our stomachs fizz when we tried to drown the taste with water.

(I was reading when my brother asked me if 1/2 c. was correct. It was all his fault because everyone knew better than to try to get my attention when I was reading!)

Now, see, if it was just the ham and bananas and maybe some cheese, I'd be willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Might make a tasty finger food type snack to have a slice of banana and a piece of cheese wrapped up in a piece of ham. But buttered bread, custard and crushed potato chips too? No, just no.

I'm one of those nuts that likes ham and pineapple together, either on their own or in a pizza. The sweet/sour and the smoky/savory tastes just work well together to me.

Reminds me of my mother's experiments with meat loaf when I was a kid. The one with a layer of hard boiled eggs down the middle was weird. The one with a banana baked in the middle was disgusting.

At that point I believe she threw away the booklet with 101 Meat Loaf recipes.

Well if you're feelng brave, try a bacon and peanut butter sandwich. (Note: for best results use very fresh soft white sandwich bread.)

Now, see, a lot of the stuff they did there looked pretty damn tasty. Um... actually.... everything they did there looked pretty damn tasty. I just wouldn't cook it all at ONCE, we'd be eating it for a week. Jack Daniels maple syrup? ....*adds a bottle of Jack to the grocery list*

If the lamb is ground, use it in spaghetti sauce along with some ground beef. It's pretty tasty.

And hausboy, what did you make that you had to force yourself to eat? I must confess to being curious.

My favourite snack sandwich is chunky peanut butter and marmite/vegemite on fluffy white sandwich bread.

No-one else in my family will even try it. Cowards!
