So let's say that one day power went out, and the sump pump in the basement stopped working for many hours. And due to your being on vacation, you return home to find a real mess.

You've removed soggy carpet and removed/dried walls, and now have a big empty room. You think about redoing it as a mancave, but since I, errr you, live alone, the entire house is a mancave.

What do you do with the room?

Everyone welcome to chime in. Think of everything though, not just toys. Floors, walls, lighting, decor, etc...

Since you live alone, and any other room in your house can be used as a dungeon,
I'd turn the basement into an apartment and rent it out to supplement my income.

DomMale46 -> RE: Extreme Home Makeover - Dungeon Edition (3/25/2012 8:50:02 AM)

Well, yes, in theory. But the point of being on CM is to change that living alone thing....

DesFIP -> RE: Extreme Home Makeover - Dungeon Edition (3/25/2012 8:52:34 AM)

Use it as an exercise room and use an upstairs room with a bath nearby for a dungeon. You want to be able to shower afterward or fall into bed and sleep or get water or a hot drink quickly. By the time you've added plumbing to the downstairs to do this, you could just as well turn it into an apartment.

And since it's empty I'd soundproof between the floors first.

But whatever you do, solve the problem of how the water is getting in first. A sump pump is not a solution.

If someone is renting yer basement.. then technically you no longer live alone.. [:D]

I liked using the basement as a dungeon as it was more soundproof than the upstairs rooms. We had a weight bench/rack thing that doubled nicely as S&M gear.

We also had a pegboard for hanging toys.

The remnant carpet and florescent lights didn't bother me as I was mostly blindfolded. I did appreciate the portable heater.

I would first take care of the sump pump problem. Before I make it into any kind of room I'd want to make sure this incident doesn't happen again and ruin the entire room again.

After that I'd probably turn it into an entertainment area for guests where they can relax with a drink and watch a movie or just kick back so we can all talk and such.

DomMale46 -> RE: Extreme Home Makeover - Dungeon Edition (3/25/2012 2:03:07 PM)

Sump has a battery backup now.
And I have a den and living room. And spare bedrooms for roommates.

And putting a bathroom in the basement is really not an option, would require either a false floor for the plumbing or drilling into the foundation, which I'm not going to get into.

FR~

Perfect place for the big screen and surround sound, and the softest couches and pillows I can afford. A small bar fridge filled with the favorite refreshments, and voila!

That's what I'd do anyway. I like to have a place where I can turn up the music or movies without bothering the neighbors too much, basements are great for that. Also, plasma looks better in the dark.

Kana -> RE: Extreme Home Makeover - Dungeon Edition (3/25/2012 3:40:49 PM)

Coat the walls in Velcro, get a velcro suit, then spend your nights playing Human Fly :-)

poise -> RE: Extreme Home Makeover - Dungeon Edition (3/25/2012 3:42:36 PM)

Weeeeeeeeeeee!

DomMale46 -> RE: Extreme Home Makeover - Dungeon Edition (3/25/2012 4:40:39 PM)

Could be fun, no?

Although I think after the first jump I'd be spending the rest of the night trying to get off the wall.

hellionsLight -> RE: Extreme Home Makeover - Dungeon Edition (3/25/2012 4:41:55 PM)

Which room is it? The basement? I'd make a few other rooms, and make an office, library, and play room for the kids.

This is hypothetical, right?

You didn't put any rules in your original post - so, nothing about my answer had to do with my M/s relationship :P

So, maybe you should have said 'Only kinky answers', then you would have gotten what you wanted.

xssve -> RE: Extreme Home Makeover - Dungeon Edition (3/25/2012 4:53:33 PM)

An eyebolt in the wall.

A chain attached to the eyebolt.

A perversely snarky bitch at the other end of the chain.

That's where I'd start anyway.

I believe I just did.

Seeing as though this is a BDSM site and the kind of answers you are looking for are of the dungeon type, I'm going to go with just that. I did once have a dungeon in the basement and because it was a very large basement I divided it off into 3 rooms. One was used as a snug, one as a dungeon and the other as a medical room.

I always think dungeons are too drab, dreary and boring. I went with a more bohemian feel with Indian drapes down the walls and ceiling, to give it a tent like feeling. A dark wooden floor with lots of rugs that easily rolled up out of the way. Complimentary lighting that could be turned up or down. A good sound system is a must. All of my furniture was in black steel and deep red leatherette (non porous and easy to clean). Think about shelving and hanging areas for all your toys. Its nice to have them out on display. I got hold of some great looking Victorian glass cabinets and had all my more evil paraphernalia in them. I always tried to keep my floor clear apart from the furniture and the victim ;)
If I had a choice of three pieces of furniture then I would have to go for a spanking bench, a cage and some simple wall bars. It would all be easy to clean

Observation tables and crosses are always fun as well. But, I like the big TV idea as well.

I do find it oddly amazing for BDSM site that very few poeple actually talk BDSM. Hats off to you MariaB for answering the question.

I love the medical room concept. I have a lot of toys and furniture but never thought about the medical room theme. Love it! I see a gyno table purchase in my future LOL!
