What was he doing at the store with a gun?

It was a corner shop in Florida, wasn't it? He probably needed it in order to buy the right size of bulllet, plus maybe a kilo of grenades. Sometimes you forget such essentials at the supermarket, I find.

Zimmerman wasn't part of a legitimate neighborhood watch.

He's just a nut who likes to stick his nose into other people's business, without any legal authority.

A Cop Fetishist.
Maybe not in NY or NYC. But in Florida, a thug never knows if a granny is packing especially after the stand your ground law was passed. And that law is absolutely awesome.

Well, given there's no legitimate neighborhood watch, there's NO WAY he could have been doing anything N/W related.

BUT, since he asserts that he's a N/W captain, I don't think it's too outrageous to hold him to THE STANDARDS HE SAYS HE BELIEVES IN, is it?

Consider a Reasonable and Prudent Person. Does a Reasonable and Prudent Person after reporting to 9-1-1 a potentially dangerous individual, and knowing the police are on their way, and against professional advice, initiate armed pursuit of an innocent kid?

No. Zimmerman is so far off the rails with liability, he can't even see the right of way...
