I know this subject was raised in the thread back in the day, but I can't find it now. Mods, if you know where it is this could easily be moved to that thread. Thanks if you do that.

Now...the final chapter in a case from Portland Oregon USA that made the news all around the world. In short, they've done some community service, and the judge has decided the embarrassment was enough punishment. A truly enlightened ruling.

I remember that. I think it was in DS in the news.

I hope they learned their lesson.

I think the judges decision is a fair one.
But what they did was idiotic and they
brought it wholly on themselves.
Perhaps with all the publicity others who
would have been equally stupid will
think twice.

The LA Times ran an online headline: "Valentine's Day in Portland: 'No, honey, I said M&Ms!'"

Portland police were alerted to a possible kidnapping suspect and victim after someone spotted Pelzner bound and naked in the back of a Subaru Legacy that Harber was driving out of the parking lot of the New Seasons on North Interstate Avenue. The call came in at 12:35 p.m., and at least nine patrol cars scoured the area.

At 12:56 p.m., an officer saw the Subaru return to the couple's Northeast Portland home and found Pelzner in back, naked and bound.

Police said the apologetic pair said they had stopped at several stores because they were "going after the shock effect."

Harber, who also is identified as Harbar in past court records, and Pelzner were charged with second-degree disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor that the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office pursued as a violation, similar to a traffic ticket. They pleaded guilty the next day, Feb. 15. They hired a private attorney, Adam Greenman. Today the case was closed.
