Also, judges have considered the houses in a community as collateral to cover such damages, he said. In 2006, the state's 3rd District Court of Appeal held the homeowner association for a South Florida community, Lago Grande, partially responsible in a wrongful-death case; property owners there were assessed about $2,000 each to pay the legal judgment."
