There was a contest for vacbed stories at Gromet's Plaza about three or four years ago. (I didn't win, but the story is still there in the general index, took a while to find it because the contest links are broken.) Up until then, vacbeds had been mostly simple flat frames, but lots of people wrote up other shapes. To their credit, the Kink Engineering folks went to town on some of those ideas, and followed through with a few new products. As a general concept, when evacuated, multiple latex sheets will try to arrange themselves around the frame and object, in a way that looks like the inside of a cluster of soap bubbles. When inflated, they'll try to stretch to look like the outside of bubble cluster on the frame or object. It certainly does provide some basis for imagination ... *grin*
