at another site I have been already being a victim of a dom who tried to blackmail me by recording the cam session using the cam capture software (now its available for free online!).... it was a shock for me and broke the trust... we closed the account of that site and came here...

my general question is "how to avoid being blackmailed while in cam". I believe cam is a good way to communicate with a master who is far off from us... but how to understand whether he is trustworthy to show face and not being copied / circulated over the net...

this might be a silly issue to ask, but i felt this is the right forum to take some advice from the experienced.

Status: offline 		It isn't silly, but the reality is that you can't protect yourself from such a thing if you choose to cam with people you don't know.

It has already happened to you once, and I doubt it would be the only time if you continue to do it.

Camming between two people who know each other and are already in a relationship where they have taken the time to develop trust *could* protect you from such a thing happening, but even then, should the relationship take a turn for the worse, the risk is still there.

You could possibly avoid this by never showing your face, but if you have any identifying marks on your body, you could still be identified.  So I would say either don't cam or accept the risk.

Status: offline 		I don't know that there is a way to cam without the possibility of having it be recorded. Look at it this way...even if there was some kind of new thing that didn't allow a cam session to be recorded, a person could still take a picture of the computer screen at any point in time. How could you ever stop that? I snap quick pictures of things I want to show people so I can text it to them all the time.

You could be masked but as it was mentioned, anything on your body that may identify is there along with identifying jewelry, the home background in cam might be recognizable to someone who knows you, clothing, there are a ton of things that might click in someone's memory as to who the person on the cam is. I just don't see where there is a way to do this and remain completely unidentifiable and also how to prevent another from capturing the session.

Or have them do a silly dance, or sing opera, or impersonate a famous celebrity.
That way, you also have some information that can be used in the event
he tries to blackmail you with your cam sessions.
Or, put a paper bag over your head and cross your fingers.

Until you've met someone face to face and have gotten to know them.......they're just strangers on the internet. So, the answer is that there is no way to know a complete stranger is trustworthy.

1) Don't cam with someone you don't know and trust
2) If you' need to be really careful, don't show your face
3) Get the identity of the person you're camming with

It certainly is illegal to blackmail. That won't stop the fact that visual information about the OP is out in the world at large, even if he prosecutes and wins it does not negate the fact that there were probably compromising pictures of the OP on the internet which is what he would like to avoid.

It's kind of like the safe call thing. If someone is calling to check on your safety and ascertains that you are indeed hurt or raped, it's kind of beside the point isn't it- the call? Did the call prevent anything? No. I never understood exactly what the safe calls are supposed to do for you after you have encountered a bad situation. The OP suing a party after blackmail has occurred seems secondary to the fact that the information was released and that's the part he'd like to prevent.

I hear you! Be careful even on here. I know that the Censorship police in more than one east Asian country has this website as one of the targets - or rather has Collar Me in that category. All the advice in the world will get you nowhere if you lose face and then lose your job, you are ostracized from your community or (if a foreigner living in that country) you are deported. The whole "It's illegal" will pale in comparison. Also, I don't know that people here understand the difference in cultures. I don't know how stringently your country handles black mail versus the US (as noted in the wikipedia link above).

It is a real issue. Not only do you need to worry about blackmail, but some places do criminalize and jail people for having something as simple as a dildo or butt plug. Some places will jail you for oral or anal sex. Some places will deport you for the same things. I have friends in China who have compared notes with me. I don't know what country you are in, but I'm in a country in which I'm much more careful than when I was in the USA. I have my own story. Know what is and isn't illegal in your country. Know what you are willing to risk and for what. There are groups you can join in every country - or at least there are people you can meet. I know it is exceedingly more difficult than in more open places like the west but it is doable.

Yea, that is a problem. I get around it two fold. One, I'm happy with myself. While I don't go around advertising, I also don't care how much any given person happens to know about me. Two, I'm fine with scorched earth. If someone wants to harm my life in some way, I care a lot more about harming them back than protecting myself. Kind of hoping that'd be a deterrent, but I have the first point to fall back on if it isn't : p

On the safe call thing, it's useless in a lot of situations, but it could be good in a couple. Like if he decided to tie you to a radiator and keep you forever regardless of your wishes... Granted, I've never personally set up safe calls for myself either.

That's a good point; I didn't realize the op was in India and that certainly makes things weighed differently. It's still something you ultimately have to decide on either hiding from or risking exposure.

There's no way to stop someone from recording you. Even if you had some extremely fancy system that ensured nothing could grab the data from your computer to their's and then to the monitor (would require hardware designed for it all the way through (is in no way realistic)), they could still just point a video camera at their screen and get something good enough to pin on you.

While the cultural differences of course do exist, you don't even address his question of whether or not there is a "safe" way to cam and protect himself, regardless of his location or culture.

Avoid giving them personal information like your real name and address, place of work, etc. If you're camming with people you don't know well enough to have a lot of trust in, just don't give them info that they can use to blackmail you with using the pictures. They can record all they want, but if they don't know anything other than your face (assuming you're not using the same username with your work email, facebook, etc) they can't blackmail you.
