Aside from every cop I talk to agreeing that there's no reason to wait and that the initial investigator's idea to charge manslaughter was -- and still is -- correct?
That means there is no reason to wait for the grand jury. Dust off the Felony Information which the detective had already put together, swear to the facts, and file it with the court clerk. The next thing is the DA then goes to the Judge, and the Judge issues an arrest warrant.
You know, like every other felony prosecution in the country.
Of course, the only reason to wait for a Grand Jury is if you're going to make a capital case for premeditation, then you'd want all your additional evidence sorted out. So, in a lot of ways the only one who suffers from dragging this out is Zimmerman.
If dear-old-dad didn't try so save George's bacon one-more-time, George Zimmerman PROBABLY would have been charged, bailed out, arraigned, and if his defense was competent, sold this half-baked story as an actual self-defense claim for dismissal. But now everyone's paying REAL CLOSE ATTENTION
And so claims like "I chased after him so... um.. I could report his location to 9-1-1 -- who I hung up on, so I couldn't report his location to 9-1-1..." and "The Crazy Negro ( who I think was smoking marihuana ) just snapped!" are going to get a lot more scrutiny than before.
