He's right, though India and China are right behind us. Especially as the U.S. has largely ignored resource rich Africa (something Clinton tried to change), while China especially has become well-established. India leads us so much in technology and medical saavy graduates that we import their computer experts and doctors.
What he neglects, though, is among the pile of money the U.S. spends on defense is a global naval presence that quite literally makes international trade by sea feasible (air being far more costly).
That's a global benefit, despite the many problems.
