Level -> AlGore out of the running? (6/4/2006 3:29:40 PM)

WASHINGTON - Al Gore, the Democrats’ nominee for the White House in 2000, says he has all but ruled out running for president in 2008, saying the best use of his time is to educate people about global warming.

Ok- I am going to bite on this--  I am s00000000, done with "global warming". When  was a kid- they said we were in danger of an ice age! The sun was in danger of buring out. Does anyone remeber?

I would not have signed the global warming treaty--not in its current form. [it lets China off the hook...]

Gores boat has already sailed. He probaly is a nice guy, but we need real talent, fresh blood.  Not a "you bad americans" lecture-lasting 4 years. *gags*

There. I said it.

Yup, Al Gore is yesterday's news!
He's a "Global Warming" one trick pony.

Too bad, I actually like Al Gore much more than Kerry. Too bad he didnt get his rightful place in the White House.. could have prevented a lot of BS from happening to the American people.. but then who knows, perhaps something worse would have happened (hard to imagine)

That's it, be optimistic lol. I liked him better than Kerry too... seems no one believes Al won't really run, though. We'll see.

Gore is old news. If he could have showed a personality when he was an elected figure he would have won 2000. (Please feel free to insert Florida jokes here)

One of the things I admire about the Republican party is that they bascially pick a candidate in the back room and get all the money and support behind them early. Not really democratic but a good winning strategy. Does anybody think McCain would have not kicked Bush's ass if the primaries had been a fair fight?

Democrats outside of  Clinton have never nominated a person the last twenty years that inspired anyone. Gore cannot do it and hopefully he is telling the truth and is stepping aside.

lisa, do you see any Democrats that can put up a good fight come next election time?

I can't wait for him to give another Global Warming speech in a town that's having record breaking low temperatures like he did in New York.

Hey Al, before you start educating again, do you mind learning a few facts first? Run a few test and test youself before you start poping out numbers that have not even have been excepted by the National Weather Channel. You give speech after speech after speech but where is your debate with people who do not aggree with you?

Better energy sources, less fuel consumption, and cleaner air are good things, but do you really need every little Global Warming theory to try and promote your political agenda? You're over filed with obsession and it's going to distroy you if don't take a chill pill. You're better off hunting for ManBearPig as protrayed by South Park.

Laughing...the National Weather Channel?  What number is that on my Directv?

How many tests have YOU run, Fangs?

Well, there goes any hope of global warming being taken seriously

lisa1978 -> RE: AlGore out of the running? (6/4/2006 9:42:40 PM)

I would say that McCain or Giuliani for the Republicans could win easy no matter who the Dems nominate but since they are not puppets and are moderate not ultra conservative their chances of being supported by the money is slim.

I do not see any Dems yet. Edwards turned into a wimp. I like Biden but he is the past as well. None of them ever show a backbone and the ability to get in the dirt with the Reb special interest groups. Hillary can do that, but she has zero chance of winning. Women have a lower opinion of her then men from people I have talked to. I am petrified she will win the nomination.

Going to need some Govenor to step up.

(Still have hopes for Joe Biden.)

Wolf1020 -> RE: AlGore out of the running? (6/4/2006 9:57:56 PM)

Al would never make it that is why he is out of the running.  The dems are maybe starting to relize the American people wont vote in an ultra left wing guy for the big chair in the big white place.

As for McCain or Giuliani don't be so sure they are an easy win.  They will appeal to the left a lot but a lot of republicans consider them RINOs

I agree 100%. That is what I basically wrote! :) They can win a general election but getting the nomination would be the tricky part.

The problem with the Democratic party right now is twofold. The party as a whole doesn't seem to have a definitive stand on anything. They seem to float with popular opinion and that gets into my second point, leadership. Does anyone in the party inspire you to follow them? If they had a true leader that could guide the party to take a lasting stand on issues and become a true figurehead of the party, they could make some noise.

The Republican party is ripe for a takeover with the recent scandals and such. If the Democrats could only put forward a somebody instead of an anybody they could win the white house. Howard Dean was supposed to be that guy and he just looked like a clown. I am sorry but I just don't see anyone looking like that "that guy." It's a shame too because this nation seems fed up and ready for a change.

I have Comcast Digital so I wouldn't be able to answer question one without having to look up the Channel Guide online for Direct TV.

As for Global Warming, I first heard about how we might be melting the Polar Ice Caps when I was in the 5th Grade. So I took a glass of water, droped in a few ice cubs, and measured the water level. I then seald the top of the glass and waited for the ice to melt. Once that was done, I remeasured the  glass and the water level stayed the same.

In Eight Grade, I took a large aquarium and made islands. I added water and floating ice up to a certain level to where water height could be measured and land mass calculated. To ensure that evaperation was not a factor a seal was once again placed to fit air tight down close to the land. The ice melted and yet the water levels stayed the same.

From both experiments I could only conclude that melted ice caps do not raise our water levels. If you don't belive me, give them a try yourself and prove me wrong.

As for the polar ice caps themselves, the discovery channel continues to show ice caps melting as well as froming at the same time. While some get smaller, otheres are getting bigger. It's all based on the seasons and under water volcanic activity which I learned about in Geology 101, Moody Gardens "Ring of Fire" and the Discovery Channel.

Little global warming theory?  Science backs this 'theory', as do the melting glaciers, the eroding shorelines, the dying wildlife, the changing weather patterns, etc.  Yeah, let's all take a chill pill and continue to do nothing to protect our environment... who cares what our children are left to deal with... I mean come on.

Also, In response to another post... Though Gore and Kerry did win the elections in number, and electoral votes, yet we still have Bush in office, Gore and Kerry would likely win by a landslide if the vote were to happen today.   Bush has proven himself incompetent, even to a substantial number of republicans... thus his approval rating.   I think Gore could win  (again) in 2008.  I'd love to see him run, but he probably won't.... at least he will do a lot of good somewhere.... thank goodness, some people care about our overall future more than how to make  a buck..

Edited to add, the eighth grade experiment certainly sheds light on this made up problem.  Below is another fabricated link about Time Magazine's hysterical warning of further dangers of Global Warming.

Lordandmaster -> RE: AlGore out of the running? (6/4/2006 10:40:23 PM)

You've forgotten to take into account that the southern polar ice cap isn't floating on water: it's sitting on Antarctica.  Your experiment works only if the ice is already floating on the water (like the northern polar ice cap).  If it's not, then the melting ice raises the water level.  Try placing an ice cube on an upside-down plastic plate, and put that plate in a large bowl of water so that it floats on the water surface.  Measure the water level in the bowl before the ice cube melts and afterwards.  Obviously, the water level will be higher after the ice cube has melted into the water.

Of course, your first clue that you missed something might have been that 20,000 scientists contradict your eighth-grade experiment...but hey, that's what the Collarme forums and its resident genius are for.

OO8OO88O8 -> RE: AlGore out of the running? (6/4/2006 11:00:41 PM)

Sometimes I think I am a genius...then I wake up.

On global warming, I am all for the Kyoto aagreement, as long as China does not get a free pass.
