I do not taunt... I simply point out the inconsistencies and the fact that those inconsistencies, are, for me, too numerous and significant for me to believe.

Why would THE seminal incident in Christ's life be so fraught with such lack of purity?

I simply can't hack such nonsense.  If you can, well...... keep your silliness to yourself, 'K?  How 'bout NO POPE ON FRONT PAGE OF ANY MAJOR NEWSPAPER?  Y'all keep shoving the same ole stuff into my face.....

Talk about same ole.... you've been at it for at least 1,000 years.  During most of that time, nay sayers were killed.... Leads to a terrific bon mot:

"Thank God I'm an Atheist in the 21st Century."

Easter will look like a doddle by comparison when it comes to the UK's Queen's Silver Jubilee later on for someone, like me, who's both a non-religionist *and* a non-monarchist.

Since you're obviously not too concerned, I'll give you a hand:
Silver is 25th (1952 + 25 = 1977)
Gold is 50th (1952 + 50 = 2002)
Upcoming is Diamond for 60th (1952 + 60 = 2012)

Then we have ascension vs. coronation, so I'm guessing 2013 is the BIG ONE. LOL!

------------

OOPS!  [Google is your friend.]

The celebrations will centre around an extended weekend in 2012 on 2, 3, 4 and 5 June.

-----------
peon - for SHAME..... you make me drift. LOL!

Whoopsy-daisy - you're quite right! Funny, I didn't think King Elizabeth was that old.

Louve00 -> RE: Happy Zombie Jesus Day! (4/8/2012 1:59:13 PM)

No, LanceHughes, you didn't taunt. You explained your take (or the reason for your opinion and beliefs) in a way that's completely understandable and tolerable. Obvious intolerance and sarcasm (as in the OP) tend to turn people off no matter what they believe, especially if they believe everyone is entitled to their opinions. Whether you believe them or not.

But I do have to plead the fifth on what was going on 1,000 yrs ago. I wasn't around back then. (I also have no control over who or what is on the front page of any newspaper, but wouldn't object to it, if it was news found its way to a newspaper) [;)]

Yep.... Atheist do sometimes see the Easter story as having parallels to a zombie story.

that's funny.. I never thought of Him rising as being a Zombie.. [sm=hewah.gif] .. but I suppose it does fit.. [:D]

I dunno.. I was in Walmart earlier and this mom was pushing her cart with a little girl in it and this kid was singing at that top of her shrill little voice "I have joy down in my heart".. over and over and over again... all I could think was that poor brainwashed kid... People were chuckling but that just made her sing louder.. and I could her her half an hour later still at it..

I really dont care if people are religious or not,.. if they are then keep it away from me (I dont push my non-religious beliefs on anyone & expect the same).. I had enough from years of my ex-BIL/SIL and them pushing their religion on everyone else.. and trying to sign everyone up for the latest MLM scam.. [8|] All the years married to my ex.. I never allowed my family to meet his family, not even once.. I did not want to subject my family to being called up every time dear BIL was on a new MLM binge, it was bad enough that my ex & I were on his hit list.. What is it about religious zealots and MLM??? [&:]

Its not like I wasnt exposed to religion as a kid, i was.. I was forced to go to Catechism when i was a kid.. which is where I learned that God is egotistical (since believing in Him is a requirement to Heaven, being a good person just aint enough for God).. [8|] I thought that was wrong so He was no God I wanted any part of and that was the end of me and religion.. I did like the nuns in the little quaint chapel at my mothers Hospital tho.. my fathers church tho, ick... [:'(]

I wished M, a militant atheist, a "Happy Spring Fertility Day," and made sure our Easter weekend meals accommodated my brother-in-law's Passover practices.

I really enjoyed holidays when I lived at the ashram, where we celebrated Hindu, Christian, AND Jewish holidays.

I have traditions, not religious beliefs, and respect for other's traditions or beliefs.

Congrats on being today's first asshole.

One every Easter. Predictable. Boring.

I dunno. I found it kind of funny after spending so much time this morning trying to convince an almost five year old that a rabbit brought her the basket of chocolate and goodies instead of a beagle. She won. The Easter Beagle brings you chocolate. *sigh*

Yep, MM, it is on right now.

defiantbadgirl -> RE: Happy Zombie Jesus Day! (4/8/2012 5:46:09 PM)

I believe in God and I believe in Jesus, but I don't believe in hell. I like to think of God as kind and forgiving and therefore incapable of sentencing anyone to being burned forever. I also believe in reincarnation. Not sure where that puts me as far as religion goes.

SoftBonds -> RE: Happy Zombie Jesus Day! (4/8/2012 5:57:50 PM)

I always thought hell was a place where we lived through everything thoughtless or cruel we had done to others from their point of view. Once we completed that lesson, we were allowed to reincarnate...

Yeah, that's what I said, isn't dating a synonym for hell???

There was a gentle, beloved priest in ancien regime France who was asked if he believed in hell. He paused and smiled: "My faith demands I believe that hell exists. But it does not demand I believe that God sends anyone there."

Well, if you care more about the message than the messenger, there is this:

"The idea of immortality, that like a sea has ebbed and flowed in the human heart, with its countless waves of hope and fear, beating against the shores and rocks of time and fate, was not born of any book, nor of any creed, nor of any religion. It was born of human affection, and it will continue to ebb and flow beneath the mists and clouds of doubt and darkness as long as love kisses the lips of death. It is the rainbow -- Hope shining upon the tears of grief." - Robert Green Ingersoll, The Ghosts, 1877.

My word, that is one beautiful passage!

Thanks. We read it at my dad's funeral. He was a life long atheist.

I like Eckhard Tolle's take, that the problem arises when we try to define the infinite.
