Any moms around? How much chocolate a day is too much?

Butterhead got chocolate in her Easter basket. (Not brought by a bunny, but by the Easter Beagle, I have been informed.)

She played with it. Sorting and such. She ate a few pieces. She helped me gather it up and place it in the refrigerator.

The other half asked me how much can she have a day.

I said that five or six pieces should be the limit. Five Hershey kisses is an ounce. These are about the size of a Hershey's kiss.

It is HER chocolate to eat. She tends to have one or two pieces a day. Yes, I keep chocolate in the house for her and I.

Do any of you have an idea of how much chocolate should be allowed per day?

Honestly, during special occasions like Easter, Christmas, German Carnival and St. Martins I do not impose any limits. If they gorge themselves on sweets for a day or two it will not hurt them. It evens all out over time.

If she likes to have something sweet each day, I would probably try to make it a ritual, help her enjoy and savour this little sweet moment. I would go for one-two pieces a day in a case like that.

If it is a once or twice a week candy habit, I think about five-ten pieces are fine.

Sounds like she already eats just what she wants, if it's only 1 or 2 pieces a day. I wouldn't let her gorge herself, but all things in moderation, even chocolate. If she is one of those that go nutsy-crazy when she ingsts sugar, then I'd watch her intake, only because it's not good for her. Otherwise, I'd let her have a couple of pieces a couple of times a day.

She might be one of those kids that love to sort and hoard her candy. Me, not.....I'd eat as much of it as I could! Oh, the joys of childhood!

Now for adults....there's no such thing as too much chocolate!!!!

It doesn't sound like she's a big sugar hound. It's not like she's going to get to use it as a meal replacement! :)

I think you're right on target with what I do. (If I understood you correctly.) If it's a special day, a few more pieces than normal is fine. As a regular, daily thing, one or two pieces a day is good. Now, that's not to say she isn't getting plenty of other refined sugar and God knows what else from other crap, but if we're strictly talking chocolate, that is what I do.

I have tried in the past to wean my daughter over to high percentage dark chocolate so the pieces she's eating at least have some benefit to her and she liked it quite a bit.

depends on the kid. My daughter was never a sweets hound so I never had that problem. From the sounds of it yours isn't either so I wouldn't be too concerned unless she's on some kind of restricted diet and then this is a question for the doc. Otherwise one or two or even 10 little hershey's kisses won't harm her. It's the holidays. I always let my daughter splurge a little around that time. If she ate too many she'd cry about a tummy ache for about a day and learn her lesson lol.

I'm the the sweets freak in the family. She had to hide her chocolate from me.

What I did at Halloween is insist first she ate dinner, because then they weren't as hungry. But five or six pieces a day, after meals, is fine.

What you don't want is them thinking junk is a substitute for meals.
