Please do your home work before commenting on my asshole. We are discussing free speech and you want to control what a man is allowed to say based on your opinion of his ball playing abilities.

MLB is not part of anything we might recognize as free enterprise. It is a form of institutionalized slavery.

What bullshit. If this is true, then Marx is right--all employment is slavery.

As for free enterprise--you buy a franchise, follow the commission---not essentially different from McDonald's.

Except the pay is MUCH better, and cities can be convinced to help you buy your physical plant.

May all of those who play baseball in mlb change teams at will? In the world of free enterprise one may change employers at will.

IN the world of free enterprise you enter contractual agreements for a project or a period of time.

You have freedom to enter into them or not. You can also break contracts under a number of conditions.

While the above is true in a system of free enterprise it is not true of mlb. You can claim it what you wish but mlb is not even in the same zip code with free enterprise.

I have a friend who settled in Riverside RI who was three when his parents, who were basically serfs on a big estate were brought to New England by their wealthy benefactors who'd also fled the Batista - Castro show down. Rickie used to tell me that his partents worked for almost two years for these people like animals before they figured out the father could REALLY leave and get a job and a home elsewhere. Cool family. I got his baby brother Ignasio a job years later with big blue.

Dude, I would love to read this as a separate thread. you were really there? How old were you and how was it you were there?

quote:

If one considers that in 1960 cuba had about 7 million people those who left amounted to about 1% of the country...that seems to speak pretty clearly where the wealth was concentrated.

Gee sounds sort of familiar.. though we have it better off ... FOR THE TIME BEING.

Yes I was really there.
I was 18.
I was in the military.

Some time, I mean if you don't mind, it would be cool to read it in a contiguous storyline. I know that might be a pain in the neck but it's a VERY significant time in our modern history and frankly, a pretty damned interesting one.

Oh, and thanks.

Yes it was and if I am doing the math right, the 50 year anniversary is coming up this year. I have to admit, I didn't realize that thompson was that old.

Of course it is. It's only one place to play ball. International baseball is huge--Americans just don't watch it.

Players sign contracts. They don't have to.

Business people do too--even with conditions on what they can say, even after they leave.

Welcome to reality. But rule one is, if you don't like the deal, walk. No different here.

Until you acquaint yourself with the special employment rules that apply to mlb and no other free enterprise system in america this discussion is suspended.

It's a monopoly not a free enterprise

Well in that case, you might want to fix your profile. It still says your 62

Not to worry, its just taking Tx a wee bit of time to catch up. After all he still thinks the Cold War is in effect (and/or that the "russia" of the USSR era still exists) http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=4110892 [8D]

Simple. They aren't TOTALLY CO-DEPENDENT on a ball player of cuban extraction the way the are towards the FAT SLIMEY DRUG-DEALER-LIKE panderer to all that is hateful in free speech.
A guy who understands the fear of addiction (BECAUSE HE'S A FUCKING JUNKIE)m and manipulates his weak minded listeners masterfully based on that understanding.

With Rush it was the consumers that said they didn't like what was said. The consumers and the advertisers make decisions about what they want which not a "freedom" issue.

Too bad they gave up. I wish they had kept on the guy... because every time consumers drop their ball these guys come back feeling a little more empowered.
And consequently the shitheads that buy into him fully.
