I'll confess...I'm not a shopper, in fact I detest it. I go if I have to get something, and when I do go, I'd rather just keep it to going in, get what I want, and leave. I'm not a knowledgable person as to what type of stores are good for what, or who has decent prices.

My first medical clinical placement starts soon, my school requires us to wear a uniform of white polo shirt, navy pants, work shoes (navy, black, or white), and a white short length lab coat with school patches on the sleeves. I have no time to shop, school has been kicking my butt. I have the polo shirts, where can I get a decent pair of women's petite length casual work pants in navy, and comfortable shoes? Any suggestions as to brands? I'd hate to get something and figure out I hate it and have to get something else down the line- I'll probably have even less time when clinicals start, so I figured if I put some time into research now it might pay off by not having to redo it later.

Also...if I order a lab coat online does anyone know if the sizes are fairly true to what they list? They go by bust/chest sizing and that's it. Sometimes when you order by that it's just crazy what you get, and I've obviously never had to order a lab coat before so I don't know if it's safe to actually just order by my bust size or if you want extra room or whatever. I mean that will be over the shirt and such too, so is the bust size going to be form fitting or...? As far as the shoes, they would prefer shoes with ties and rubber soles, but no athletic shoes or clogs.

I know it sounds incredibly lame to ask these things but I am stressing out over it and just thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone had some suggestions. Maybe something has worked out particularly well for someone in a similar job where you are on your feet but need to look professional. The other people I'm in the program with are just as clueless as I am at this point as to where to get things and what to get [&o]

Does the school have a store where you get books and supplies?  They probably sell the lab coats.  Also shops that sell scrubs probably have the lab coat, work pants, and shoes.

Don't order a lab coat. It's something you have to try on. The lab I worked for once wanted us all in lab coats. I told them that if they could find one that fit, I'd wear it.

They couldn't so I didn't. I guess they just don't make em to fit a 5'7 concrete block LOL.

Yes, we have a bookstore on campus, I never thought to look there for the lab coat and in fact I have to get the school patches from them so I'll check this week. Thanks so much, I never thought they'd have the coat.

I've tried finding a scrub place around here, I'll just have to try harder- there has to be something. I'm just so shopping impaired that stores don't show up on my radar and when i look them up as for location, I'm not sure where it is. Direction impaired too [&o]

Lol...Hilly. Yeah, I was hesitant to order one thinking it might be a disaster.

Hillwilliam, I just tried to PM you, but stuff is happening over on the other side again and I can't get through. I know your background is in biology...how are you on muscles? Is anyone else about tonight that has a physical therapy background? I have a question on something for school tomorrow. What i've looked up and can find in the books isn't giving me the whole picture.

I wish I could. We never see them. When we're in class they aren't, and I wouldn't actually know any of them if I saw them around the campus as we've never met any of them. It's kind of like i know they're around because things change around in the lab, but it's like sharing a space with ghosts.

So...abnormal gait patterns and what causes them falls into 3 main categories- muscular, joint, and neuro. A particular pattern is called equinnus. Is this the same as foot drop? But it seems like foot drop can have some heel strike while equinnus does not? I can't find this anywhere. And it seems like equinnus can be in the joint restriction category (no knee flexion) and it can also be neuro based?

Quit your stressing! Your local Walmart will have the pants you need,
in a variety of material too. They carry a brand called White Stag that is
affordable, comfortable, and professional looking as well.
No need to spend a fortune on a uniform, and you can avoid the mall entirely!

As for the shoes, I'd go to one of the popular chains, such as Shoe Carnival or Payless,
where you will have a better selection of brands and styles.

Ok, that makes sense. If the gastroc is tight it will not allow the heel to strike when we walk. I'm not sure where I got the no knee flexion from- that doesn't seem to be part of it. The teacher does have bilateral equinnus under the neuro section though in our notes and I saw on the site you suggested that equinnus caused by calf spasms may be a sign of neurological disorder...score! That must be what she meant. Still wondering there is any heel strike at all...? There was a video on youtube of a gentleman with equinnus disorder and he never had heel strike, he was always on his tiptoes, so I guess I'm still not sure on that part.

Lol, I also kept looking it up how our text spelled it "equinnus" not knowing there was an alternate spelling which you found in the site you sent.

I went to the Walmart already and no suitable pants [&o] I was counting on them too, that was when I started stressing, lol.

Years ago I remember JC Penneys or Sears selling uniforms. Maybe check with them? If nothing else, ask your professors. They usually can tell you that kind of information.

I'll try Sears or Penneys if it gets to that. I was trying to cut down on the hunt, I have so little time and didn't' want to spend it in pursuit and maybe not obtain my goal. I honestly don't have the time to waste going somewhere and not finding what I need. i have too much to do and too much riding on getting it done. That's why the thread [:)] Those are good suggestions though, I'll keep them in mind.

The teachers have not been helpful. They handed us the sheet with the criteria on it and said go get it. I can understand- they're busy too. We did try to pump them a bit and either they don't shop for this stuff or haven't paid much attention to the other classes because they weren't much help. After reading Lance's suggestion of getting info from the class ahead of us I'm thinking of leaving a note on the board for the other class asking for help. Lol, it's worth a try.

Try a medical supply store. All the items you need you can purchase there and you will have the ability to try on different sizes if you need to order. Your lab coat you will need to try on. Dont discount clogs, some are more comfortable that other shoes. Again, something you need to try on and decide. No clue where you live or I would look it up for you.

I'm in southern Maryland.
We're not allowed to have clogs.
This might sound stupid but a medical supply store has uniform stuff not just medical equipment? Or should I try a scrub place?

Well, I just bought a medical clinic (guy just fucking up and left....and I have a big gawdamm bldg. left over) and I spent the last weekend (Easter) doing a big garage sale...sold all kinds of shit like you just described.

Lemme just tell you this...don't know shit about medical (half the shit I just sold this weekend I didn't even fucking know what it was), but one thing I DO know about is....walking....trade shows.

CROCS!!!!

Them are the best damn shoes ever made!!!!
