Status: offline 		Something interesting and heartwarming that I heard about, had to check out and then had to share.

For the record: when my time comes... Pink Floyd, SuperTramp, Men at Work, U2, Harry Chapin, Joan Jett, Neil Diamond, Melissa Etheridge, Bob Segar, Simple Minds, Peter Gabriel, Led Zeppelin, just about anything from the '80's except Michael Jackson.

Also: The Manferd Mann version of "Blinded by the Light," "Down by the Park," by Gary Neuman, and "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth..." by Primitive Radio Gods.

Status: offline 		Very interesting clip, ta for sharing. It was remarkable how Henry changed from a virtual catatonic state to becoming alert again. Hopefully it will have an impact on future treatments.

It reminds me of Nietzsche's philosophy on music. Earlier philosophers regarded music as being inferior to the other arts. However he argued that it had an immediacy and power that affected the mind and body in a visceral sense, giving it a power quite unlike painting, poetry etc..

As someone who works surrounded by artists every day I can tell you that the notion that musicians rank below "serious" artists is still alive and well (photographers are accorded even less respect). Personally I think music may have been the first artistic expression, probably starting shortly after we developed language. Music is primal. There is just something about the rhythms that thrum trough us like a pulse.

So, when your time comes and you're sitting in your chair hunched over and drooling on yourself... what music should we plug into you?

Status: offline 		Oh yes, NPR has done a few stories about that. Studies show that people with Alzheimer's often react to music in a very positive way. They can remember words and lyrics. It really gives hope.
