These were the people sent in advance of the President, to ensure his safety on foreign soil. Instead, up 12 men (some of them married) were sent home for "misconduct" with prostitutes.

What the hell is going on with the Secret Service? I'm hoping one of these incidents finally results in some serious house-cleaning at that agency. They have a rather important job to do, you know.

"one of these incidents"?

What other incidents did you have in mind?

The only such incident I can think of is that the SS were out drinking and partying the night before Kennedy was assassinated.

Maybe you should start watching TV, Muse. There were the party crashers at the state dinner, and the stolen truckload of stage equipment for a Presidential appearance, right off the top of my head.

Since clearly this is not condoned behavior, it's being handled as it should.

No, it shouldn't. Not for a moment.

There's no indication they weren't also doing their duty. Just clear misconduct while on this detail.

And they've been removed and replaced. Appropriately.

This is an agency that can't afford to make mistakes, Muse. Now I find it perfectly believeable and understandable that the people in a high-stress job like this are going to need to cut loose, and blow off steam sometimes, but there seems to be a pattern going on.

They can certainly cut loose now that they have been sent home. I don't care if they were technically off duty, there is something called professionalism. I'm sure it doesn't look good to have Secret Service agents whoring around on foreign soil.

They didn't make any "mistakes" regarding their duties. They engaged in inappropriate conduct, and were replaced.

What "pattern"?

A pattern which displays a lack of focus, Muse. A pattern of little fuck-ups. Perhaps you are happy to have our President guarded by people who are not 100% committed to their mission, but I'm not.

And here again....what "little fuck-ups"?

And what's with the invented characterization of something I never said nor implied--in fact, I indicated just the opposite.

Or in short--you're alluding to something that doesn't exist.

Muse, did you miss the post where I referenced the state dinner party crashers, and the theft of a truck with the President's podium and teleprompters in the back? We also had the Occupist jackass who wasn't busted immediately, when he took a shot at the White House from a passing car.

This is an agency that needs to be perfect. I'm not getting the impression they are meeting that standard.

Rich, please allow me to jump in here.

In military outfits and companies that contract to the military, there is an attitude that expects everything to go right. When it doesn't, that's considered to be a big deal. Not only for the visible stuff like bombing Canada when Iran was intended, but for the stuff like battery life being four hours when six hours were in the specifications, or a cable having a tensile strength of 2 tons when 2.5 tons was expected. Lessons Learned Meetings get called, vendors get involved, and the problem is tracked down and fixed. VEndors can get dropped for this, and people can get chewed out and demoted.

Rich's point is that the Secret Service is not following the same discipline. The agency has had several screwups and there's been no indication of a shakeup or of any changes. The recent foofaraw is simply a breakdown of discipline.

Rich, lemme know if I got your intent wrong.

Nail on head, Steve.

Let's also tack on the Presidential limo getting high-centered and stuck, with the President aboard, leaving an embassy driveway, .

At Ruby's club if my memory serves.
Supplied a healthy morsel for all of those convinced that there was a conspiracy afoot in Dallas.

Than there is the concern that agent's involved in such activities just might leave themselves open to being compromised in some fashion.
Is it unlikely an agent could be convinced to look the other way just to avoid his wife finding out he was with a hooker ?
Absolutely it is...but the Secret Service can not afford, none of us can afford, even this unlikely scenario to go unpunished.
The Secret Service is part of the Treasury Department, let these agents explain to their wives why they have been transferred to Podunk Iowa chasing counterfeit dollar bills.
