DaddySatyr -> RE: What do you think of this? (4/19/2012 6:14:30 PM)

I think the words "private donations" might be tripping some people up. I was raised that one does not give to charity and then, publicize it. Whether I give or not and to which organizations will never be talked about by me or anyone who wishes to be associated with me. Obviously, the president is "obligated" by political pressure to release a financial disclosure (which I think is bullshit of the first order but, unfortunately it has become de rigeur). I will never fault any politician for that. However, if bravado enters into it, I believe it shows the "charitable" person to not be practicing true charity; as a part of that spirit (to me), seeking accliam or pats on the ass negates any charitable properties of the giving and it becomes "PR work". There's a fairly strong streak of conservatism in my family and my paternal grandfather still received pleas for continued support at my parents' house (his last address), ten years after his death. Yes, I'm outting my dead grandfather as a giver. Peace and comfort, Michael
