seems like the job over there isn't anywhere close to finished, but the coalition is moving out soon and leaving it to the new" highly trained "Afgan army. It's gonna be a blood bath.
Waste of lives and money unless you believe that we have fatally damaged the terrorist threat coming from there, oh and not increased the terrorist threat from elsewhere too, oh and not increased the hatred of the west, oh I could go on....

44 dead and 65 injured, but none American. No worries then

Anaxagoras -> RE: taliban launch new raids (4/16/2012 5:58:30 AM)

I'm sure someone will correct me but the invasion of Afghanistan was seen as a reasonable success during the first few years. The Taliban were virtually destroyed in a relatively short period. The problems arose with the unnecessary invasion of Iraq which bolstered massive support in the Islamic world against it. It helped give credence to the message of extremists, and in turn caused massive long term problems in Afghanistan. BTW its more than a little ironic that the Taliban are outraged at an American soldier killing 17 civilians when they have killed a vast number of civilians in the conflict, and deliberately so.

I like Ron Paul's approach: just pack your bags and move out. Taliban is de jure the regular Afghanistan government army (elections and nominations under occupation have no legitimacy). Ten years should be enough to convince everybody the  "Afghanistan liberation" operation has failed.

Well,.....though very honest about his positions....Paul is a defeatist/isolationist/pip-squeak.....that no body is listening to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Afghan forces pretty much wiped them of the face of the planet.....handily.
The terrorists only got the advantage through a surprise ambush,setting up on top of a few new high-rises being built.Anyone can get sucker punched and go down.
Anyone thinks there won`t be more attacks there is fooling themselves.
There will be more,but we`re leaving a capable force behind that can deal with them.As the Afghan forces did with this latest attack.
And we will always have some sort of capability there,whether through a small strike team or with drones to help the Afghan soldiers.
Honestly, Paul is not defeatist/isolationist. He is just antiwar and anti-empire building and a realist. The current military efforts in the Middle East do not work in long run. Whatever US elites are dreaming, they obviously do not have a real chance for successful takeover of oil rich regions by military force.  Besides, Paul has huge, multimillion supporter base.
"realist"......means in/with reality......which god bless`m.....Ron is not a part of.
I see the point, but I wouldn't say it. If you refer to his chances to win presidency, he does not believe into it either. Being in the race for him means spreading his political views. I am sure he is not naive to believe into breaking to headed monster (Republicrats) dominance or military-industrial complex. By saying it, I am not referring he has potentially majority support. Most do not choose his liberty message, they would remain in the Matrix. Bad news is the Matrix is breaking down and the Middle East game could potentially end very badly (WW3). I would argue Paul's presence is important and has significant influence. For example, allegedly majority of active military donations are sent to his campaign [ http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/washington-whispers/2012/02/06/ron-paul-awash-in-active-duty-military-donations ] .
Owner59 -> RE: taliban launch new raids (4/16/2012 7:00:11 PM)
Emm no.....everything from ending the federal reserve to not going after bin-laden to his silly gold standard and it goes on.
Yes, he has no chance in hell of winning but that`s not what I was referring to.
I am really sorry my friend but ALL Ron Paul is... Is some weird little barn-door-eared con-artist who build his whole platform out of Mark Twain-esque one liners. Say.. JUST SAY for a moment he got elected. His own party would gut his sorry ass like a fish for even implying their corporate welfare ride was over. They'd assassinate him if he touched the fed. Nah... even he doesn't want to get elected.
So what's likely? He'll crawl into the election broke and he'll get for his measly 2% (yes, I AM BEING GENEROUS... WTF? It's a staged primary anyway), he'll get up to the podium and the guys circulating on the floor with bottled water from the Coca Cola Bottling Company with a little note on the side encouraging them not to do anything that might hinder their new water business on the african continent. He will be drowned out by that because GOP rank and file folk think he is at best laughable.
And outside? The Ron Paul rEVOLUTION folks will be further away than the occupy folks because they are considered more of a threat by the secret service 8-)
In short, Ron Paul is about as relevant to what actually will unfold in american politics as someone in British Columbia kibitzing US politics for his own amusement.
Owner... even the CRAZZZZZZIEST Cons realize that... but see they've dragged in the people that the Occupy movement was hoping would leave soon (and thank god they did... "Don't Tread On Me" flags and all)... What is Paul going to do... Rent the parking lot at Giant's and say over the PA "I am sorry I may have miscalculated how far my bullshit would get me. You all need to go home.
Seriously, we're talking about a crowd that makes the crowd drawn by a weekend of Dead shows to Giant's LOOK STABLE [8D]
