The DEC here is waiting on a mountain lion/car interaction and the body to confirm that we have them. But the Preserve up the mountain gets calls about them around 20 or more times a year. Very solitary animals. And they don't run deer.

It's always nice to see an animal back here that hasn't been here for 50 years, especially since we're within a two hour drive of NYC. The coyote are now in Central Park.

In theory there are beaver dams around, I still haven't seen one so there can't be too many. And although a moose came down within 30 miles of here some years ago, it was a one time thing. It swam the Hudson River.

Yes,many that live in cities do not have a clue about what other things that share their neighborhoods or how to deal with them.I was working in Chicago several years ago and watched some local guys trying to call up and pet a coyote they thought was a starving mixed breed German Shepard.

Or me sighting a red fox,a deer and many coyotes and racoons at different times while driving a delivery truck at night in Memphis,Tn.

I do not believe a cougar will try running down a full sized deer,but a fawn it might.And I know they will jump from a higher level onto a deer or other prey.I have found a deer that was half eaten and covered debris with cat tracks around it so I do know they will eat one.I have horses and worry a little about them,not because the cougar might attack...but from the horses hurting themselves trying to get away if they are frightened.The first time I knew for sure that we had big cats here was when I went bow hunting and walked to my ground blind before daylight.Walking back to the truck later,I glanced down in the dust on a turn row and saw the cats tracks on top of my tracks from earlier.I never saw the cat that day,but that sure gave me a chill and caused me to pay closer attention to my surroundings.

When I float the river fishing, I can usually count on one or more of (Beavers, Otters, Muskrats and Mink)

I was over east of Raleigh, NC a few years ago fishing with my old college roommate and he was expounding on the fact that there were now eagle sightings in the area. I pointed over his shoulder and said "you mean like that one?".

We've seen bear, cougar, moose, deer, fox, and (yuck) skunks on the property. I worry about the wolves as the pack is getting closer so eventually some new pack will have territory that includes the property where \we live. I also worry about grizzlies as their range keeps expanding in NW Montana.

I have to tell you, mommy skunk was so cute as she had a baby in her mouth and headed to Gary's sister's barn to make a new den. Saw her carry 3 babies down. Better in her barn than in my shed. I did warn her about her new wildlife. I'm not sadistic.

Yes, I am crazy about feathered creatures. I have a dozen chickens, 3 ducks, 5 geese, and 2 parakeets.

Revise that number. Just got 14 new chicks and 5 turkeys.

For years I had a skunk that spent the winter under the side steps of the house. We could go up and down the steps without him ever being disturbed.

The only thing spotted here so far are some really gigantic mosquitos.
Usually, they spot me first.
