It's late/early, so I figured I'd just try to strike up a little conversation before I hit the pillow..or at least attempt to.

Korean entertainment....such as dramas, movies, music, etc....anyone else interested in it? I've just started up another K-drama called A man's story, and it's actually really good, even if the pacing feels a tad bit off. I can forgive that. It has my favorite Korean Actor in it. Lee Philip. So anyways, Yeah...Korean entertainment..anyone else on the boards/CM enjoy it other than myself?

I know absolutely nothing about it but my nephew's wife is always posting stuff on her FB page about it. She absolutely loves Korean music and movies. She lived there for awhile when she was in the military. I've tried watching or listening to it with her but I just don't get it.

It can be an acquired taste I admit. A friend of mine had to get me into it, but once you start feeling it...it becomes sort of like an addiction. Said friend practically spammed me her favorite songs, and I think it was SHINee with their song Lucifer that really struck a chord with me, so I got into the music....and then eventually into the shows. The shows have excellent plots for the most part, and I'm a sucker for a good story.

Well, I live in Korea... and I love Korean dramas! We have a group over on Fet called Korean Pop Culture in which we dish about all the Hallyu stars, give our personal reviews of the shows, keep up on who's doing their military service, what concerts are coming to town, etc.

I've watched many of the K-dramas, and my top faves are Capital Scandal, Jejoongwon, My Lovely Kim Sam Soon, and OF COURSE Flower Boy Ramyun Shop! I liked 49 Days also and thought it had the most splendiforous ending of any K-drama I've seen. Loved the ending (although there were times I wanted to stick a fork in my eye while I watched the regular episodes). We were watching Skip-Beat recently. It's from Taiwan, but many of the actors are Korean, so we know them from previous Korean shows.

There are a number of Korean movies I've enjoyed as well. One of the best movies I've ever seen was Bin Jip (I think it's called 3 Iron in English). The lead actor never speaks a word and he's actually known as a comedy actor while in Bin Jip he gives a stellar dramatic performance. Also I love, love, love Jung Woo Sung in A Moment to Remember - one of the saddest, most touching, well-worth-watching movies ever made.

As an aside, Philip Lee is not Korean - he's an American citizen (and a real life chaebol!) who is of Korean heritage. We all swooned over him in Secret Garden despite Hyun Bin being the actual male lead - although we swooned over *him* in My Lovely Kim Sam Soon.

Too much? *koff* I may have acquired a certain liking for Hallyu. *koff*

WOW! That's a lot to take in. My head read that as a frantic fan! LOL But good to know I'm not alone now! Well I knew I wasn't. It's mostly Myself, my boy and the friend that got me into the dramas and music. I knew that Lee Philip was an american citizen, I do still consider him a Korean actor BECAUSE of his heritage and the fact that he does play in Korean dramas. (if he plays in anything anywhere else, god I'd love to know). I fell in LOVE with him as Director Im in Secret Garden. Hyun Bin I have to admit...he kind of annoyed me through most of the series. I'm not a huge fan of his to begin with. He just never did it for me. I know my boy watched Kim Sam Soon and told me I need to watch it, and chances are I will eventually, it just isn't something strikes me as a "I HAVE TO WATCH IT NOW!" kind of series. One of my favorite series so far is Tae Wa sa shin gi. Mmm, Lee Philip did an EXCELLENT job as Cheoro in it. Yoo Seung Ho is one of those actors that I absolutely adored in his role as a child, however, I admit, he grew up into quite the looker, and I look forward to seeing more of him in his other dramas. Also, hearing that there's a group for this stuff over on fet makes me kind of want to join that site!

I'm not sure "frantic" is accurate. In my defense, when it is everything that is around you, you know a lot about it. I'm betting that people in Britain could go off on British television and music and Americans could go off on Hollywood stars in a similar vein. I just see it everywhere I go. And honestly, I love the dramas. There is an innocence in them that is touching and sweet. A lot of it is also pretty accurate in general... although I swear every time I go to a pojangmahjah (the tent food restaurants) I look for the drama that always happens at them. So far, nobody has come up to me to save my heart, there has been no chaebol asking me to be his pretend girlfriend, and my ex-sweetie has not in fact shown up to try to win me back. More's the pity.

Well I wasn't trying to say you were frantic at all, I apologize for it coming off that way! It's just the way my mind reads thing when it's given that amount of information from someone else interested in a subject like this. I did notice you said you live in korea....are you korean yourself? Or just living there? I'd love to go there if I ever got the chance. It looks like it would be a great place to vacation. I do agree though, about the touching and sweet innocence in the dramas. Something in them strikes a romanticist chord with me.

If I may hazard this...*gives you a hug* Hang in there, something's bound to happen with someone sooner or later.

No, I'm not Korean. I just live here. There are about 1 million expats who live in this tiny country. That's what? 2% of the population?

It seems to be a plot device in EVERY show. :)

Ah yeah...Im sorry. XD I'd like to blame me being sick, but that doesn't affect my brain as much as I'd like to claim it does. In short: Blonde moment rofl.

But yeah I noticed is a big plot point in a lot of dramas. So far that doesn't seem to be the case with "A man's story" wich I like, and it wasn't a part of Tae wa sa shin gi, then again, that one was a period drama, and the orphan did fall in love with the emperor, but it was sort of unrequited for the most part.

That's a lot of expats. You may or may not add in two more if my boy and I ever get a chance to visit...we may not want to come back.
