Mari, as I said on another thread about this subject, there seems to be an institutional problem within the Secret Service. Whether I agree with his policies and/or support his reelection or not, it is the mission of that agency to keep our President safe and secure, and I want them to be damn good at it.

Rich, you know we agree often but, is the fact that a SS agent (or 3 or 11 or whatever) got some sex while off duty a failure to carry out their duty?

From what little has matriculated, these guys were off duty so, the sex (for me) is not the issue.

That one (or more) didn't want to pay for the services of the young lad(y/ies) is a problem (Prostitution, I believe in legal in Columbia).

I have heard people saying how this is an example of the president's leadership which is pure, un-diluted bullshit (as I tried to point out). The president wasn't involved, and probably had no knowledge of this incident until the SS had done at least a cursory internal investigation.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Not Rich, but I will throw my 2 cents in anyhow.

To me, while they are somewhere and their sole job is to get a place safe for our president to visit, there is no off duty time. Kinda like firemen who work 5 on 3 off or something, while on duty, they are on duty.

Actually, because their job is so demanding and so important, the agents are encouraged in a big way to make their time off very much "off duty time".

I understand what you're saying; that while on a trip, they're always "on duty" and while that's true, they still get R&R time.

Again, I am not trying to defend everything that happened down there but, these guys are human and they suffer some of the same frailties that the rest of us do. ie; they get horny. They get hungry; they need sleep, etc.

Short of these things occurring while the agents were actually on duty, I don't see why all the fuss. They weren't actually on duty. Now, if they had been, that would mean that the president's security was sub-standard/compromised and that would be an issue for me.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

I think the problem here is that these men are on temporary duty in a potentially hostile environment. A well trained operative of XYZ terrorist organization could concievably obtain information regarding the president's security setup.
Fortunately, this did not happen.
Trust me on this one. Some of those S American chicks are not only hot,a lot of them are amazingly uninhibited as well. The problem I have is how do you know there isn't a "Mata Hari" or twelve in the bunch?

I am so sick-to-death of "well, the other guys do it too". It's almost like people are trying to excuse behavior.

I want to state very clearly: I am not saying that the agent(s) involved in this are squeaky clean. I am saying that they're fallible, just like anyone else and that their "sin" doesn't rest on anyone's shoulders except their own.

Hill, I understand the danger, honestly. I would be willing to bet that off-duty agents aren't found on the same floor of the hotel or, perhaps not even in the same hotel as the PotUS. If I thought that they were in any kind of proximity, I would feel differently.

I know about the virtues of Latinas from almost all of the Americas, my friend. I have a propensity to gravitate toward Latinas and ladies of color. LOL You think I keep up on my Spanish just to be helpful to my neighbors, when they need me to read a letter to them? LOL

¡Puedo connocer a una latina con mucho facilidad por que hablando Español despues que teniendo 14 años!

Peace and comfort,

Michael

If this was all there was, Michael, I'd be a lot more willing to embrace a, "boys will be boys," attitude towards the incident. It isn't the only one. I posted links on the other thread that I don't feel like pulling up again, and I'll drop the one that was disputed, but in this administration, that we know of, there is a pattern sub-standard performance.

The party crashers at he state dinner.

The Occupist who fired bullets into the White House that weren't noticed for days.

The Presidential limo getting high-centered and stuck in the exit driveway from an underground garage.

Those might all be little, "shit happens," embarassments in other environments, but when it comes to the security and safety of the President of these United States, any one of them is a major failure. Taken together, they paint a picture of an agency that is not operating at the standards required by their mission. Now we add in a bunch of agents deciding they are on a party TDY, and allowing their conduct to publicly reflect on the President while he is a guest in a foreign nation. It says there is something happening either institutionally, or culturally, within the Secret Service.

Yes, there is a difference between on-duty and off-duty, but there is also a mindset of never forgetting the mission. To my view, that's the root of what happened in Columbia.

Rich, I would never deny that that is a valid point and I agree that the security of any president (even the ones with whom we don't agree or even the ones we don't like) must be a priority because it affects our national security and the potential continuity of our government (should a horrible incident befall the president).

I am not trying to make light of it and your last post has reminded me of some of the other "minor slips" that we've heard about over the last few years. I will say this: I know, for a fact that the Treasury Department takes the first "S" in "Secret Service" very seriously. I'm kind of surprised that we heard anything about the happenings in Columbia to be quite honest. It's unusual for the Secret Service to have much to do with press releases and the like and anything more than "No comment" surprises the hell out of me.

Years ago, I was able to interview a just-about-to-retire SS agent who had served under 4 administrations and worked on 3 PPDs (although one was only in a very peripheral function). I had known the guy (on and off between stints of my not being in New Jersey and coming home, etc.) for close to 20 years and he had never shared his job with me. I knew he was with the Treasury Department but on more than one occasion he had come very close to lying about his job (letting people believe he was an ATF agent). The stories he told me - off the record (that fit with some of the anecdotes that we all know about)- blew my mind and I have no doubt he was being honest but when an agent fucked up, they were dismissed or allowed to resign very quietly and without much bru-ha-ha.

Again, I am not saying that I support what the agent(s) did but I understand that the standards to which they are held are incredibly high (and probably rightly so) and I can understand when some agents don't always meet them.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Good.

This was shit compared to the stories I've heard over the years about ones I know. The only thing I would point out is that there might be a few SS retirees out there saying "It's about time these dopes had their comeuppance".
The guys I am acquainted are LIGHT YEARS Smarter than these dopes.

While soliciting prostitution is in most cases legal for adults in Colombia, it is considered a breach of the Secret Service's conduct code, government sources said

According to some on these boards, no one ever does that. I guess she must have selective reading issues.

This isn't a big deal to me, although the wider implications and subconscious reactions appear favorable to the idea of defeating Obamao, so I am all for piling on

When you ask a large audience (the American people, say): "Who wants a job whose description includes deliberately getting shot while protecting people- some very important, some just the relatives of minor also-rans, some of whom you like, some of whom you loathe, just whatever people you're assigned to?" the ones who raise their hands and say: "oh hell yes, that's the job for me" are not going to be men (the vast majority will be men) who wear belts and suspenders, wear seat belts to the corner market, and recoil at the thought of,say, bungee-jumping. People who volunteer for that kind of risk at work take risks in their personal lives as well. I would bet a lot of money that the Service is full of gamblers, drinkers, sky-divers, mountain climbers, etc. And escort chasers. Maybe some of us, too.

The subconscious message is that government doesn't work, big government really doesn't work, and Obamaos big government rwally doesn't work in spades!!!
Gotta love that....

Subtract 'Mountain Climbers' and add former DC Cops... and you're a lot closer. And you don't want to be camped next to em at "Motorcycle Weekend". Notwithstanding the other camper's patches.

So far 2 secret service supervisors have been fired over the prostitute scandal in Columbia.
Two Secret Service supervisors who have lost their jobs in a prostitute scandal during a recent trip to Colombia are David Chaney and Greg Stokes, a third agent has been allowed to retire.

The other eight members allegedly involved in the scandal are on administrative leave and have had their security clearances suspended, according to the Secret Service. Ten military personnel are also being investigated for their possible participation.

They seriously compromised national security, and more importantly the safety of our President, I am glad this has all come to light, and I think everyone directly involved should be fired.

2 secret service supervisors fired, more to come!

Two were fired.

Great.

Using FR:

Many many years ago, I lived in the French Quarter. In one of the famous local Bourbon Street bars here was the deal: Prostitutes serving drinks at the piano bar, the fuzz having a party in the back.

Which may appear somewhat discordant until you learn, the pros where married to the fuzz.

All one big happy family.

So am I surprised at this? No. I am surprised at how well it is contained, b/c I suspect there is so much more here.

That prostitutes and our supposed saviors live in such close proximity makes sense to me. Cue Jesus and Mary Magdalene. There is a message here, peeps.
