I do a lot of play piercing and have done several workshops on it.. I do recommend that you get some face to face hands on help with this if you're interested... its not something to just read about...

aftercare varies.. depending on who you're playing with..
there are lots of risks, just like any play
there are a of dos and don'ts.. again, not something you should learn on the internet in ten minutes

there's a ton of stuff you should know

Aftercare as far as emotional: same as any other scene, some like a lot of cuddling or talking, some don't like any aftercare. Sort this out with your top first. Physically caring for the wounds: just keep clean. Wash them daily and otherwise leave them alone... do not put things like neosporin on them as anything with a petroleum base is not suited for puncture wounds.

Risks are a tiny bit different from other skin breaks due to the puncture wound status. As opposed to simple cuts or abrasions, you are more likely to get infection trapped inside the wound. It is therefor more important to use as clean as possible materials for piercing... best is sterile needles, proper skin prep (surgical soap is great for this), barrier methods, etc. You can get all sorts of blood borne diseases and also germs that on the outside of the skin are no real issue on the inside of a puncture wound can be serious. Work as clean as possible and then again keep the area nice and clean as it's healing.

Do's and Don'ts get a bit too long and specific to go into here, but a basic one is: have the bottom alert you when they feel they are half-way or so done with the scene... remember that those needles still need to come out. Otherwise, don't go deep or do anything in the neck or face unless you are well-trained. In general this is a form of play best learned from someone knowledgeable.

Special precautions are just to, again, make the application as clean as possible and to avoid needle sticks. The latter is best done by, again, learning under someone and getting hands-on practice.

I agree with the others when they say, go to workshops but be careful. Not everyone running workshops are using universal precautions. Go to as many as you can so you can ask pertinent questions and compare notes.
I am a fully trained and professional piercer and I have been doing workshops on play piercing for many years but much prefer doing one to one classes.
I always open my class by saying, 'If you practice nothing else, practice this: every single person you pierce is HIV positive, has Hepatitis, Syphilis, and MRSA. Never rely on someone telling you they have just been tested and they are clean.....Got that? Now protect yourself accordingly against cross contamination.

Sorry that I kind of dropped the ball on this one guys, I work a shit ton of hours, and am just now making it back around to old posts I've made.

That being said...I think I had a total misconception here about what "play piercing" is.

I had often wondered, and due to living in the back water of no where, and having a less than reliable baby sitter for longer trips to travel, I haven't been really exposed to this aspect of BDSM at all.

What I was thinking it was, and this may yet be a part of it, ranged more towards inserting body jewelry, leaving it for a short period of time and taking it out. (They said play piercing! This is what my minds eye conjured.)

Im kind of getting the sense that this leans more towards what I know as needle play (leaving the needles in just kind of under the skin in a shallow way).

So, I am kind of starting to sort it out a bit. I am still not clear, but I am getting there.

Obviously, I wouldn't pierce anyone with out a great deal of study and I had considered the precautionary side of things. I had planned to buy needles pre sterilized on ebay, gloves, alcohol, betadine, and so on to protect everyone...

Is it dangerous to use....stimulation while doing this...I was considering working something out to where the sensation of this type of pain would be associated with pain...Thus far it has worked with other things, and I wondered if it would work with this as well.

Play piercing involves multiple ways of piercing the skin: needles, using jewelry, hooks, quills, feathers, skewers, just about anything that can be put through the skin. The information I gave applies to all: keep things as clean as humanly possible and keep the healing piercing clean without using petroleum-based creams like Neosporin.

As to stimulating the area, yes many do... slapping, flogging, electric current/zaps, pulling, setting on fire, whatever.

I meant um...not the piercing area...I just didn't want to come across sounding like a perv trying to add material to the spank bank...I was more meaning of a sexual nature.

I dunno that this is what I want to do, but it is something I am curious about...so I thought I would ask...

=)

Yes, perfectly doable. Especially if you're just placing temporary jewelry or using sutures.

For a sub it is really a fantastic experience. The pain is so so sharp but it is short and I flood with endorphins. there is lots of literature online as well and some places to best avoid on amn. I learned the hard way from a huge hemotoma that some palces are too vascular If you would like some pic xXLithiumXx I will send but only if u pm first i wouldnt send unsolicited. it's a treat when someone wants to do it most dont

By definition, play piercing is any form of piercing the skin.  That can be needles, hooks, jewelery, or whatever floats your boat.  Personally, My preference is needles.  Use once and throw away.

I'm also advocating learning this particular type of play in person.  Until that opportunity becomes available, I'd also recommend "Play Piercing" by Debra Addington.  It's a good book for background research so you can add that information to whatever in person/hands on instruction that you receive.

As for stimulating someone during the insertion process to link an erotic sensation, you can go either way.  I happen to prefer not doing both on the same body part at the same time to reduce the risk of sticks and accidentally pulling the needles themselves.  (Save intentional pulls for after you've been piercing on your own for a while so you are used to depth of insertion.)
