It is peer pressure and is healthy. There are many bad behaviors such as smoking, under age drinking and drug abuse that are behaviors that cannot be condoned. Homosexuality falls into this category. Homosexuality is simply bad behavior that youth see as such and rightly pressure their peers to stop it. So, the Tea Party Nation wants us to praise and support kids who bully gay and suspected gay kids, not punish them? What ever happened to the Tea Party's "less government - lower taxes - arm yourself against the nasty federal government"? What does that have to do with bullying gay or suspected gay kids?

As they think homosexuality to be evil, this is hardly a surprising position.

There are positive forms of peer pressure but bullying is not one of them. Unless you nip that stuff in the bud.....kids left to their own can become "lord of the flies-ish" and very cruel.

It is sad that a movement that presents itself as a serious political force adopts child abuse as part of its platform. It is a sad commentary on bigotry that the bigots blind themselves to the evils of bullying and abusing children because they regard an expression of human sexuality as "evil". It's far more obvious to me that the evil lies in bigotry. Swier's bigotry is contemptible. He badly needs to be subjected to some "positive peer pressure" himself - ideally in the back room of the local queer S & M venue. I rather suspect Swier might enjoy his "positive peer pressure" a little bit too much. [:D]

I have been waiting for the typical Tea Partier response to this type of thing - the "No True Scotsman"/"No True Tea Partier" defense/fallacy. Ever since the Koch Brothers and Carl Rove created the Tea Party, whenever any person at a Tea Party rally or on a TV interview or writing on a Tea Party website says, does or writes something like Dr. Swier has done, they proclaim, "He's not a true Tea Partier - because NO Tea Partier is a bigot/racist/homophobe/fill in the blank".
