Having a parent die is one of those earth-shattering, life-changing moments that’s incredibly hard to put into words. This weekend on NPR’s “This American Life” sex columnist Dan Savage, of all people, did a brilliant job of recounting the experience of watching his mother pass away after a bout with cancer and how it (temporarily?) changed his outlook on the Roman Catholic church. It’s charming. It’s funny. It’s beautiful. And, good christ, is it heartbreaking at times. Dan loved the hell out of his mother. Get ready to laugh and cry. If there is an afterlife, Dan’s mother was an incredibly proud woman this weekend.
