Owner gets one right. It's a Stand your ground law fail. As to some of the other comments, I wouldn't be so sure race had anything to do with it. It sounds to me like an anti gun over zealous prosecutor and a brain dead jury. Were there any blacks on the jury ? It could also be that maybe we're missing something that was not in the article.

Yeah a bullet has never plunged back to Earth and killed someone after being fired into the air before. [8|]

The law didn't fail her. First, the judge and jury failed her. Second, she failed herself...when she failed to seize this golden opportunity to rid herself of her problem permenantly.

Manunkind,
Have you ever heard the saying "you get more flies with honey than with vinegar?"
In my experience, conservatives are mostly just people like liberals, and when you talk to them person to person, you find that they are generally decent folks.
Also, the more you talk with them, the more common ground you can find. This means less anger in the world, less fighting, more solutions. Less suffering, more people getting work and having nice lives with nice spouses and kids and good teachers and garbage collection and buses running on time...
A threat in the internet age is that we self-censor, only listen to sources that agree with us, and devolve into a society with two groups living in different worlds. The long term result of that is war, civil war, and I don't think this nation can survive another of those, do you?
So lets try to reach out to our neighbors, find solutions. Compromise sometimes means giving up something and having the other guy give up something, but it can also be finding a path that satisfies everyone's concerns, and makes everyone happier.
/end polyanna, we now return to your regularly scheduled all snark all the time channel from me...

To hop around: I agree with the self censoring, and I focus on not doing that. I read Freepers daily, and other bastions of idiocy. I know many conservatives, many of them are my family.

I've also told people they're gross as fuck, and to go away, far way and never blight my doorstep. I don't hate conservatives. I hate racist shits who have no redeeming value, unless it is the value they'll finally supply when they stop breathing.

Back to the beginning, I don't give a shit about honey vs vinegar. I want to call a spade a spade.

It's pretty impressive how a site that says it supports alt lifestyles allows racist Stormfront fucks who spout KKK rhetoric.

One other thing to consider: Zimmerman's father is a former magistrate of Virginia's Fairfax County 19th Judicial District.

Robert Zimmerman Sr. was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam in 1970, and was stationed at Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia, in 1975 with Gladys Mesa's brother George. Zimmerman Sr. also served two tours in Korea, and spent the final 10 years of his 22-year military career in the Pentagon, working for the Department of Defense, a family member said. In his final years in Virginia before retiring to Florida, Robert Zimmerman served as a magistrate in Fairfax County's 19th Judicial District.

Is there a credible link to the story, or just the bullshit link Owner offered up? Also, how can it be a fail if the stupid lady didn't even try to defend herself? All the investigators have is a he said/she said, a gun with her prints, and a bullet hole in the wall, if it's a true story.

You're welcome.

That random black woman also endangered the public by shooting thru the wall of her house, I'm not feeling too sorry for her dumb ass.

I hadn't read this when I provided a legit. news link for you.

One, it was the ceiling, and two SHE WAS BEING ATTACKED BY THE MAN WHO BEAT HER UP WHEN SHE WAS PREGNANT.

I would think the reason they arrested her was because of the backlash they got for NOT arresting Zimmermen. I would assume their policy now is to arrest first, sort out later.

Her case happened first.

Not everybody has the Nachral Borned Killer instink, Terminator ruthlessness, and tough-guy Dirty Harry titanium nuts that you and Ted Nugent have.

Race? In Crackerville Florida? Really, no way.

Nosathro -> RE: Another Florida Stand Your Ground Fail...... (5/2/2012 7:57:11 AM)

Some of thes rationalization created really have me wishing I was not part of the human race. Marissa shots into the ceiling, okay not a real good idea. Let's forget that this guy has a history of violence, about three weeks before the shotting he beat her so bad she was in the hospital and had to deliver a baby prematurally. This guy openly told police that he would have strangled her if she did not have the firearm. So he is out walking the streets she is facing 20 years for assult. And many people think Marissa should do the 20 years for shooting the ceiling?

Aswad -> RE: Another Florida Stand Your Ground Fail...... (5/2/2012 9:59:54 AM)

~FR~

So long as nobody got hurt by the woman, I would say this falls squarely under "made a best effort at self defense and survived without injuring or killing third parties" and hence shouldn't be prosecuted. Whether people want to make her give up the gun (it could have gone the other way), is another matter. But prosecuting her is absolutely insane.

IWYW,
- Aswad.
