INSIDEYOURMIND -> Munches (10/28/2004 3:36:52 PM)

What is up with munches, I used to go to one in NJ, and it was great, lots of chat, good people, and excitement.
And now I live in Rhode Island, which if you back in history was created by people that sought religious freedoms. I went to the local munch, There were 10 people there, only a couple of them talked to us, and the rest just looked at us.
I know there are more people into the lifestyle in Rhode Island, I just have to find the rock they are giding under!

Well, I know at my munches, we never have large enought ables. No matter how badly you want to talk to someone you end up getting shuffled around and it doesn't always happen.
Did anyone introduce you around?
Perhaps do what I did when first starting. Bring enough people with you personally to start your own munch. Really annoyed the hosts after a while..

When are you going to come out and joined the civilized folk in CA? You may still be ignored but the weather's better!

beth and I went to Gloria's Munch last month and met a lot of great people. We've also been to many where we just sat and talked to each other for an hour and left. Just because people at a munch are supposed to be interested or in the lifestyle it doesn't automatically make them interesting.

And maybe, just maybe, the two who talked to you were the only 'regulars'. Everyone else could have just been there for the first time.

Timo,
Get the guest rooms ready!

The munch we went to was a bunch that got together every other Monday, and we were the only "new" people there.

All they did was eat!

Always have a place ready for you and yours!

I orgainze a munch in Brooklyn, NY. We get in between 20-40+ people and always have a good mix of people attending. You should try to goto many different munches on a monthly basis. Not all the same people are there each month.

Since I've no clue what local to you is in Rhode Island, I'll just give you all of the links I have:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OceanState_D-s/

http://get-me.to/theMunch

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SOALS/

http://www.social-eyes.com/

I hope one of those helps you out.

Does anyone happen to have a link I can go to for munches in Atlanta GA? I have been to two so far, but the first group gave me an incredibly chilly welcome (I won't mention the name of the group in order to remain flamefree, as they seem rather well known), and the second group just didn't catch my interest, although they were polite.

well, I spent quite a bit of my life from Pawtuckett to Providence...I've gone back there recently and things are really hit or miss though the provmunch certainly had more then 10 people...at least a few years back. You're better off to take the hour drive an head to Boston, they have a rather full scene.

blushes4u -> RE: Munches (10/29/2004 2:01:56 PM)

That was a question i had....how do you find munches in the area that you live in? Being new to this i wouldn't know where to begin to look.

Mercnbeth -> RE: Munches (10/29/2004 2:08:27 PM)

blushes,
There are quite a few lists, but I don't know of any one source that keeps track of all of them. Try this link:
http://gloria-brame.com/kinkylinks/onlinebylocation.html

It's a place to start. It shows some nearby you. I would suggest you email any of the active groups and they should be able to steer you to something close by.

Hope this helps!

If you do a web search of "munches my area" and put in your city or state you may have some luck.

smeagol -> RE: Munches (10/31/2004 1:26:04 PM)

over the years I have attended many Munches throughout the Uk...they all differ from each other, depending on organisation etc
Some are excellent due to the people hosting them making sure that people do mingle and chat.
Others were well quite intimidating, nobody willing to chat to any new members etc.
Venue can also effect how a munch will run, crap venue and no facilities or bad transport provisions all play a part, finding an ecxellent venue is quite hard.
We set up our local Newcastle munch with the emphesis on fun and soicalising and making sure people reaslised it wasn't a pick up joint... we always tried our best to introduce and chat with new members before they attended, it helped make them feel more at home and safer.
The local munch is more like a get together with a large group of friends out on a night out.. so people feel free to just let their hair down. It does help break the ice.
We are lucky also that we have several members who do make a great effort to communicate with others in the group and not just at the meet itself.
Making people feel welcome beforehand letting them know a wee bit about ourselves is a great ice-breaker..we make many friends before they attend the munch and they arrive knowing there are several faces allready there who they can chat to and not feel out of place.
