The story is that he will drop out Wednesday. That I understand.

What I don't understand is that he's letting the cat out of the bag already. Why not just resign and be done with it, instead of scheduling a press conference and then disclosing what the purpose of the conference is?

Maybe it's my training as an engineer, in which you accomplish things with minimal fuss and then move on. Is the goal in DC to get as much PR for everything you do?

And the barrista at the coffee shop I use in town wants to direct television dramas for the Beeb.
The way that Gringrich has been carrying on for the last six months, I think the lad in the coffee shop probably has a more realistic goal in mind...

He's negotiating with Romney for his delegates. In exchange, I hear, Newt is asking for enough money to retire the campaign debt he ran up -- counter to conservative financial principles, of course...

There are such thoughts as conservative financial principles ? I haven't seen any but greed.

They are as financially unprincipled as any western political party in history. Ryans' budget gives new meaning to the words hypocritical or chutzpah...take your pick.

Newt has a number of financial...lets be honest here, schemes. After he left congress, he did quite well for himself with these schemes, bolstered by his "conservative credentials." When his initial fame began to fade, he ran for president in 2008, added "presidential contender," to his resume, got a lot of free press, and dropped back out.
Now I'm not sure whether his recent run was a "folks think this run is just like the 2008 run, just for attention, so even though it is, I have to act like it isn't." Or whether Newt bought into his own press, thought he had a chance, or even just got mad at Romney for some of the mud being flung. That said, all he really needs is what he already got, his name thrown around as a political big-man, so he can continue to peddle advice and such.
