Because as a guess, I would think that the majority of the customers are married and the wives are blissfully unaware of what the husbands are doing, and finding out because you contracted an STD or HIV is possibly the worst way of finding out...

This would seem fairly probable, on all counts.

For that matter, I would think an honest business transaction with a professional is infinitely preferrable to a deceitful affair. I know I would care more about an implied emotional involvement than about mere physical entanglement. To say nothing of the question of casually risking an unknown vs. choosing a known quality establishment, regardless of whether something was actually spread or not.

100% with you! The emotional hurt might be less if it's just a quick "bang for cash" versus a full blown affair. But when it comes to questions of health, butt hurt or emotional hurt doesn't matter, it's my quality of life on the line!

you can get a craigslist account without a phone number - just need any junk email account.

Are you sure you can post without giving a phone number?
Maybe it's different in different areas (probably is). But I just created a free email account, and then created a Craigslist account, and then posted to casual encounters and then clicked on the verification email Craigslist sent to my new email account and then, at this last step, it asked for a telephone number saying "Phone verified accounts may be required for posting".

Personally, I think that's the problem (flame hat bolted on).

Here's why:
1. Prostitution is the oldest profession for a reason
2. Prostitutes are in every community on the planet - probably within a mile of you right now
3. SOMEBODY is keeping them in business, day after day, night after night, year after year, eon after eon ...

If it's not me keeping them in business, who is?

One way how prevalent prostitution is in my community, I just went to http://www.myredbook.com/showpro.aspx and typed in my area code (408). Up came scores of pages (it never ended), with one line per woman (presumably they're unique but I didn't check). Try it if you don't believe me.

What that tells me is there are 'hundreds' of prostitutes in my very own town, let alone in the next town over, and the next one after that, and on and on and on. And this is today - but it will be the same tomorrow, and the next day, and the next week and the next month (on and on and on).

While I'm not so naive as to think they're all females, most are (or appear to be).

So the question has to be 'why' is prostitution so prevalent in my community, especially in a country where it's declared illegal by the majority of the people (presumably by democratic voters anyway).

Who goes to prostitutes anyway?

I would have to assume married men frequent these prostitutes just as frequently as unmarried men (give or take a few percentage points either way) - so I have to conclude married men don't get what they (feel they) need from married women (flame hat bolted on) ... but then, I'd also have to assume men don't get what they (feel they) need ... because it's men going to these prostitutes (someone is keeping them in business).

Or is there some other reason why prostitution exists other than to serve the (presumably unmet) needs of men, married or not?

Aswad -> RE: Are the cops posting profiles and fishing for pervs here? (4/30/2012 5:01:24 AM)

You slightly bungled the quote, pompeii... that was me quoting Constanze, not me.

The customer base is probably quite diverse, but I imagine married men are a significant segment.

In Denmark, you can get a prescription for sex if you've got certain disabilities, covered under universal health care.

Like any market, it adapts to the laws of supply and demand. I'm going to hazard a guess we will see a rise in prostitutes catering to women, just like most other statistics are rebalancing. So far, a lot of that market has been for those in jobs that don't mix well with family life, but I'm inclined to think that we'll be seeing an increase in more carnally motivated transactions, as well. For now, it's generally a lot more demanding in terms of what qualifications you need to be attractive to a female client vs a male client. The male clients and female prostitutes will probably remain the mainstay, though, and married men are likely to be a huge chunk (with the US clientelle in particular, I would imagine, given the repressive attitudes toward sexuality there).

I'm all for 'rehabilitating' the profession, in any case.

Regarding police with CM profiles.

Once every coupla months, I will recieve an email from a sub who says they are under 18.

That email gets forwarded to VAA. POOF. They're gone. If it was a cop, tough shit. Don't fucking bother me in the future and I won't take action to get your ass kicked.

I also believe law enforcement should perv this site.

They do. There have even been a couple of instances where I've forwarded information to them.

mnottertail -> RE: Are the cops posting profiles and fishing for pervs here? (4/30/2012 9:30:23 AM)

I could go for a cops with tits spread myself.

IrishMist -> RE: Are the cops posting profiles and fishing for pervs here? (4/30/2012 9:31:03 AM)

Honestly, I am surprised that so many would think that the various police forces would not have someone monitoring sites such as this.
Hello. Wake up people lol.
Use some common sense here.

LaTigresse -> RE: Are the cops posting profiles and fishing for pervs here? (4/30/2012 9:32:37 AM)

It's because we are so special, hiding here in plain site. A secret society of pervs yanno.

fucktoyprincess -> RE: Are the cops posting profiles and fishing for pervs here? (4/30/2012 9:39:26 AM)

Anyone on ANY Internet site who thinks that their profiles, e-mail, blogs, etc. are private are mistaken. They are NOT private. So any information you put out there, any correspondence you have, is subject to law enforcement scrutiny. That is a plain fact.

I used to know a woman who worked with the police department and posed as an underage girl on a variety of Internet sites (including things like Facebook - in other words not just "sex" sites, but Internet sites generally). This is routine practice for law enforcement, although the main targets are things like pedophilia and child prostitution, as opposed to just prostitution per se.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with a certain level of scrutiny - but this just does reinforce for me how nothing on the Internet is "private". Everyone needs to keep this mind.

Don't you think if it's all illegal it's a lot easier to hide human trafficking? That if women are afraid of the police, they are less likely to report extortion, forced prostitution, human trafficking, etc.

And less likely to use condoms:

Prostitutes Push for N.Y. Law Banning Condoms as Evidence

Prostitutes are pushing New York lawmakers to make the state the first in the U.S. to ban police from using condoms as a reason to arrest them.

Condoms are considered probable cause by police when they make a prostitution arrest, according a report released today by the Sex Workers Project at the Urban Justice Center in New York. As a result, prostitutes sometimes don’t carry prophylactics when working, raising the risk they’ll get and spread HIV/AIDS, said the report, which was co-written by the PROS Network, a coalition of sex workers, organizers and service providers.

...More than 107,000 New York City residents are living with HIV/AIDS, and the rate of infection in the city is three times the national average, the report said. AIDS is the third leading cause of death for city residents ages 35 to 54.

“Confiscation of condoms is clearly counterproductive from a health perspective and disrespectful of the rights of sex workers to protect themselves from HIV,” the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS wrote this year in a report.

hmm, very weird! perhaps it does matter by area, or section. or maybe they flagged certain ISPs to require that. i just created a new test account, and was able to post to personals. if you continue to have problems, maybe can get around them using TOR anonymous browsing.

you can have the account i just created, i will email you with the login.

MistressMeltz -> RE: Are the cops posting profiles and fishing for pervs here? (5/17/2012 7:16:38 AM)

Craigslist is shit now. I wont post anything else there. I selling jacket and posted it and I got a ton of spam. You already knew the police were there. THey are everywhere

Kana -> RE: Are the cops posting profiles and fishing for pervs here? (5/17/2012 7:29:45 AM)

Of course law enforcement is on here.
Frankly, with what I post, especially what most folks would see as over the top actions, I would be stunned if I were not on some sort of suspected sex criminal/creep watch list.
I don't like it. I think it's pretty shitty and certainly kinda intrusive, but it's also a reality of the world we live in.

There are reasons I yanked my faceshots :-)

And yeah, I really should get on TOR when I come here...but at this late point, fuck it. If I'm outed, I'm outed.
I don't do anything illegal and I'm damn careful re ages so the man got nothing on me
