Muttling -> Sedation Dentistry - I HIGHLY RECOMMEND (4/30/2012 6:53:19 PM)

Greetings all,

I just had a root canal and thought I'd share my experiences. I went to a sedation dentist and paid $250 extra for oral sedation (0.5 mg Triazanon.) It was fabulous.

In the past I have had panic attacks during fillings despite being on Xanax and broke out into a cold sweat just having a teeth cleaning. (Needless to say, I have a lot of anxiety issues with dental visits.)

I was pretty loopy for the root canal and the only discomfort at all was the initial nova cane shots which weren't that bad (even by my standards.) I remember very little of the procedure and I slept for 8 hours after it was done. I have less soreness than I have had from previous root canals.

I HIGHLY recommend looking into it if you have anxiety issues or are going in for some something serious like a root canal or extraction.

I had IV Valium for wisdom teeth extraction.

Other than that, I've never had more than novocaine. Including when the periodontist reshaped my jawbone. That involved 15 shots of Novocaine into the roof of the mouth. But really, only the first one was bad.

Seriously, I'm glad you found a way to work around your fears and get the work done. Too many people prefer to lose their teeth instead of having dental work.

There are times..

I had all four wisdom teeth out at once.

I could have been awake for it, but the "stress on the patient" is such that they would only do two at a time.

No-Brainer.

Sedation is awesome. Best thing is, it has a reasonable chance of inducing short term memory loss, so you can't even remember what the sedation let slip through.

I swear I read this thread as "Seduction Dentistry".
Same thing though, really...if you've ever seen my dentist. [8D]

I'm glad it worked out favorably for you, Muttling. Well done!

I'm so going to ask for that, getting work on my upper jawbone done and just thinking about it, I break out in a cold sweat... I do go to dentists regularly but I'm terrified of them and this includes some oral surgery - well, I guess most of my friends will enjoy the quiet...

I had all 4 out at one an they had not even come out, they had just developed an as they were waiting to break the gums and make their appearance, they started crowding my other teeth an the results were bad enough to see on x ray, so they said we have to yank them.

Well they had to cut them out and break them i couldn't wait for them to crown or what ever the hell you call it then pull, I was told that Western Dental did knock people out for having wisdom teeth ripped out an when I got to the procedure I was told no , sorry we do not do that but we do offer laughing gas, it's 65 dollars extra, your insurance doesn't cover it, and I was awake for every single agonizing crunch and crack and every sensation that went with that. There is absolutely no fucking way I'd ever go through that again or do it that way had I known now what I would have experienced. And as the laughing gas was making me woozy an out of it I became very terrified and started to cry from how scary the sensation was,

This thread is well over a year old.
Don't dig up old threads.

Sory I do not pay attention to the date stamps when there's something I wish to reply to. I didnpt notice how old it was.

I've had dentists say to me that they have never seen a person so calm in their dental chairs. I just usually try to zone out by meditating and not thinking about it until they're done.
