He's right you know.

http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2010/08/solar-and-nuclear-costs-the-historic-crossover

The cost of solar electric power is the most significant metric of future economic and social trends. This is because the fuel of a solar cell is nothing. You need not dig it up, you need not burn it, you need not deal with the waste and there will be more, tomorrow, as sure as the Sunrise.

Zen that. It changes everything, doesn't it. I would have used a question mark, if that were a question. But it's a statement. Isn't it.

And not wanting to remain in the condition I find myself, I have a plan to take advantage of the new conditions to amass fantastic wealth while benefiting everyone to such an extent that when Congress does finally outlaw privately owned internal combustion engines no-one is going to feel put upon, except those who want the infernal machine outlawed entirely.

I would be pleased to brag about my fabulous ideas, but, if I don't get there first, the idea will forever belong to someone else. And so too, the money. So pardon me if I clam up at this point.

ETA : The curves in the above graphic are normalized to 2010 $. Inflation makes the curves look steeper.

It's simpler than that, Frosted.

Know what it will cost to heat my new home?

Zero. Nadda. Zip. Nothing.

It's (1) designed to absorb and store heat from the sun and (2) uses the earth to mitigate temperature extremes (heating from 50 degrees is much easier than heating from 20, and that 50 degrees is quite helpful in the summer). Cost? About $120/square foot, just a tad over what traditional construction would cost. And it would be cheaper still, except that codes mandate putting in a heating system anyway. So I went with in-floor radiant heating, reusing the energy I use to heat water.

Everything could be built similarly. We HAVE resources. Using them effectively is the key.

For example--know what high tech treatment contractors are using today to help keep the spaces between boards airtight?

Glue.

Doable, people. Totally doable.
