First, determine a method of designating Dominant versus submissive status. Is it a fixed status or fluid? Is it to be gender based? Socio economic? Race? Religion? Heredity? Merit/testing based? This would be the hardest part. How does the society determine who has which end of the whip? How does the society accommodate switches? Is status, once assigned, permanent or can it be changed? Once these questions are resolved much of the rest would fall into place.

This is a really general comment from reading the thread so far. I guess you are asking us for our own personal definition of what we would like such a world to be like (in which case each of us will have our own perception based on things very personal to us). Obviously some want a world where their particular approach is the only approach in that area, vs others who seem to want to define things more generally to allow for a broader range of activity within the area.

I guess I lean towards the latter. So my idea of a BDSM nation would hinge more on having very general rules (like consent), and then letting people choose role, kinks, partners, etc. In other words, not really all that different from how it works now. I know, not very creative, but I, personally wouldn't want to be in a BDSM nation where all the women were submissives and all the men were Dominants because I guess I just feel that is personally very limiting. I certainly would want Dominant women there. But then it seems obvious that one would want submissive men, too. And I wouldn't want the kinks to be limited to what I find interesting or what a particular Dominant finds interesting, because again, it just seems limiting. Yeah, I know, not a very fun answer compared to others, but my ideal really would allow for a wide range of roles, sexual orientation, kinks, etc. for everyone. Anything short of that seems too narrow in my mind.

An entire nation based upon the BDSM lifestyle? Man, some people take their BDSM way more seriously than me. If I was going to go to all the trouble to establish an entire nation it'd be founded on something with a bit more meat to it -- something like freedom

Which is basically the same thing as "freedom" and, on dusty old constitutional parchment at least, what the US is all about. I did have to laugh a bit about the "consent" rule though. The whole CNC thing sort of blows that right out of the water.

I'm with fucktoyprincess. A BDSM-based nation would be a lot more interesting if it allowed a very wide range of activity to take place on a "consenting adults" basis. Most of the legal changes that would be needed would probably involve privileging consent over things like general human rights considerations - make sure the laws explicitly said, for example, that "he consented, your honour!", if backed up with appropriate documentation, was an adequate defense against charges of rape, assault and a lot of other things.

In my BDSM-based nation, individuals could even consent to binding long-term slavery, with no escape until their contract ended. People who signed up for life would have no escape at all, ever. If they did manage to break free of their owner's control, it would be everyone's civic duty to facilitate their recapture.

Personally, I don't know if I'd take the plunge into lifelong legally binding slavery or not, but I'm pretty sure I'd seriously consider the idea. It might depend on whether or not I would automatically be shipped to Memphis as part of the process.
