farglebargle -> No Corporation ever died for YOUR Freedom. (5/12/2012 6:02:26 AM)

So, why should they get ANY entitlements or benefits from our government OF, BY, and FOR THE PEOPLE?

subspaceseven -> RE: No Corporation ever died for YOUR Freedom. (5/12/2012 7:24:50 AM)

Because they have bought our political system, and to quote Willard "corporations are people my friend"

Nosathro -> RE: No Corporation ever died for YOUR Freedom. (5/12/2012 7:27:14 AM)

Are you talking about the Chase lossing $2 Billion in what appears to have been caused by Chase high ranking excutives making bad investments with the investore money?

subspaceseven -> RE: No Corporation ever died for YOUR Freedom. (5/12/2012 8:22:45 AM)

I'm talking about how Chase gave donations to certain elected officials to water down the regulations after WS crashed. This includes members of both parties

subrob1967 -> RE: No Corporation ever died for YOUR Freedom. (5/12/2012 9:49:24 AM)

fargle's right, corporations aren't people, therefore, they shouldn't have to pay taxes, or pay silly things like benefits to it's employees who do pay taxes.

Just imagine how well the economy will do without the sword of government regulations, and taxes hanging over a corporation's head... Just imagine how much tax revenue the government won't have for social programs! Goody goody!

Unions, gone! Child labor laws, gone! Fuck pollution, and air, and clean water, corporations aren't PEOPLE, therefore they shouldn't have to CARE about rules and regulations... Right farg ol buddy?

You're correct here--we need unions, child labor laws, rules and regulations for exactly the reasons you cite. Without them, corporations historically don't care about pollution, air, clean water -- or people.

Theon38 -> RE: No Corporation ever died for YOUR Freedom. (5/12/2012 11:58:47 AM)

How can a corporation care about those things?

It's not a person! Didn't you read the first message?

Bring back 70% personal income tax brackets, charge sales tax on securities transactions, and tax capital gains as income and you have a deal.

That was the point.

Please read carefully.

That's pretty absurd. All your investments would have to exceed the sales tax, and that would be a pretty hefty return.

Moonhead -> RE: No Corporation ever died for YOUR Freedom. (5/12/2012 12:32:54 PM)

As far as corporate taxation goes, punitive import duties on allegedly American companies that have shifted all of their manufacturing out of the country would be a good place to start. Maybe some kind of VAT that sticks said companies with the difference in manufacturing costs as well. They'd probably try to get around both by sticking the consumer with the mark ups, but if that hiked the price over domestically produced alternatives, it'd still work wonders...

Then it would be reasonable to forbid them to use our highways, airports, police services and fire departments. Let them provide their own infrastructure and municipal services.

I'd say instead that if someone can't cover their expenses with their investment income, then they're a failure as a capitalist, and the Market is better off once they've declared bankruptcy and the banks redistribute their wealth.

Musicmystery -> RE: No Corporation ever died for YOUR Freedom. (5/12/2012 12:35:49 PM)

Have you heard of the Supreme Court?

That ship has sailed.

Nonsense. These taxes are already paid at the corporate level, and again when the goods/services they produce are sold. Why would it be reasonable to tax them a third time, when securities are simply transference of ownership of production/financial obligation, not sales of new goods?

I can't imagine how you would accomplish that in a global economy.

Why the fuck would you want to pay 70% of your income to the most inefficient entity on the planet? Make it a flat 20% tax for those making 35K and above, and you got a deal... No more sales taxes, or gas taxes, or stupid sin taxes, no exemptions, no subsidies... Flat tax all the way.

With the exception of public sector unions, I agree... California is the prime example of what happens to a state burdened with public sector union contracts.

Moonhead -> RE: No Corporation ever died for YOUR Freedom. (5/12/2012 12:45:51 PM)

What the hell does federal inefficiency have to do with your unwillingness to pay taxes?
Let's be honest here, you could have the most effective government management on the face of the earth and you'd still be horrified at the notion of paying a 70% tax rate, so spare us the blather about inefficiency, eh?
