Flame73 -> Fetish, obsession or voyueristic tendancy? (6/5/2006 8:57:55 PM)

Fetish: an object or act whose real or fantasied presence is psychologically necessary for sexual gratification.

obsession: a persistant disturbing preoccupation with a feeling, idea, or emotion.

voyeur:  a person  who habitually seeks sexual stimulation by visual means

Now I know there's a millon kinds of kink freaks on this site, from the seasoned veteran who's tasted everything twice, to the new unblemished bottoms just begging for welts. I happen to consider Myself reasonably educated in most fetishes. I have been in the lifestyle for 15 years, had the opportunity to scene on two continents, and have formed a great many meaningful D/s based associations. But apparantly I am misinformed.

I was rudely told off by a man that admitted to only ever playing online that cuckholding is a fetish and not a voyeuristic tendancy as I implied. Now I have known and befriended quite a few Mistress' with cucks. They all admitted that the desire to be cuckholded was seated in a voyeuristic desire to see another man please a woman while being an object of degredation and scorn.  It was not the sole means this sub/slave male recieved gratification, in fact it played such a minor role as to be trivial by most  Mistress' opinion. So by definition this is a voyeristic obsession, not a fetish.

So I am looking for some other opinions here, what do You think? I know opinions are a dime a dozen, so I'm taping My $20 to the wall.[sm=crop.gif]

Guess first of all you have to consider the source.....someone who has only played online.
I say it can be either/or.  All boils down to how any specific person personally defines it.

~takes $20 from wall~  Finders keepers.

It can be both. Some cucks *need* to see/be involved in the "deed." Others are just "satisfied" in the knowledge that his Mistress/Lover is out having relations with other men. Fetishes/kinks are rarely black or white.

Like you I learned in my early 20s that a fetish was as you defined, an object or act that is necessary for sexual gratification. I have been involved with only one person with a fetish, and they are not really common from what I know. I think people use the term fetish rather loosely. As far as the online wanker.. what can I say... everyone thinks they're an expert. I think I heard this definition reading Kinesy, but I do not remember where I heard it exactly.

n.
  1. An object that is believed to have magical or spiritual powers, especially such an object associated with animistic or shamanistic religious practices.
  2. An object of unreasonably excessive attention or reverence: made a fetish of punctuality.
  3. Something, such as a material object or a nonsexual part of the body, that arouses sexual desire and may become necessary for sexual gratification.
  4. An abnormally obsessive preoccupation or attachment; a fixation.

I think that those "loose" interpretations of the word *fetish* are also valid.

Im NOT an expert,...smiles. I am just saying I have only been with one person with a fixation for a nonsexual object that the presense of this object was necessary for his gratification. Loose interpretations of the word are no skin off my nose...smiles

Ditto what she said.

I know mine is an obsession bordering on fetish, as per juilaoceana's post.
