I saw an ad the other day for that show...having seen previously only one episode...repeated several times.

Spectacular show...unparalleled.

When the ad indicated that there were "more episodes" (indicating there had been several before) I was like..."yeahhhhh....bring it...."

Fell asleep to it last night.

Great stuff!

Thanks for the link. I went there and started watching Hound Of The Baskervilles but I noticed the time setting was not turn of the 19th century. Was that Sherlock with a Mac notebook ? I'm going to go back again and watch one of the 5 episodes they have online but it looked a bit lame to me. I like Sherlock Holmes stuff but the whole notion of Sherlock in the new millennium is hard to swallow. I think Sherlock as portrayed by Robert Downey Jr fell a bit short even, but not as far out as this. I guess I need to watch an entire episode before I proclaim final judgement.

Initially I had an issue with the change in time setting as well. I am a dedicated Sherlock fan, so I was not prepared to like the series. I started watching it as something to do while I worked, and after one episode said, this is something the man would like as well.

I think it will help to start at the beginning. Benedick Cumberbatch makes the most brilliant Sherlock, in my mind.

My daughter is in love with the series. One of the few times her father and I can get her to watch PBS.

I see your Cumberbatch, and I raise you one Jeremy Brett!

I caught the synopsis for this episode on ign.com, and had to laugh. A rather ingenius take on Irene Adler.

I've already seen all of them over here, and loved them all.
I am a big Sherlock fan, and adored the Jeremy Brett stuff when I was a kid, so I was unsure it would work in a modern setting, but watching just one full episode got me completely hooked.
Cumberbatch is just brilliant as Sherlock, and the rest of the cast are just great as well.
I'm really looking forward to the third season.

I thought the updated version was spot on. So preferable to the watered down, unrecognizable movie version. Sherlock as a sociopath. Perfect!

Have to admit, Ive had a soft spot for Una stubbs ever since she was in worzel gummidge. She is brilliant as his housekeeper.
Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett were great, but Cumberpatch is perfect

Oh don't try to wag Jeremy Brett in front of me, I've been in love with that man since I saw him live in "Dracula," at chgo's Blackstone Theater a good 30 years ago.

Basil Rathbone, Jeremy Brett, and now Benedict Cumberbatch -- I could not possibly try to pick one as the best, they are all superb.

I've enjoyed this latest take so much I put my two book version of The Complete Sherlock Holmes on my nightstand. It's time for a reread.

Touche.

A couple months ago I set about reading all of Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, and I'm now two novellas away from completing that task. I've read a good deal of the short stories many years ago, but I was surprised to find how accurate Downey's portrayal really was.

I am sorry but if it doesn't have Jeremy Brett, It isn't Holmes.

Jeremy Brett was Holmes!

I plan to get the complete Sherlock Holmes series that is leatherbound next month from Barnes and Noble. Drives Mom nuts when I buy books or yarn but it is how I keep myself busy.

I did find a copy of A Study in Scarlet and The Hound of Baskervilles in a bookcase that all the forgotten books go to. Maybe after I finish Lovecraft up....

That's the collection I have. The other collection only has the stories published in The Strand. The leather bound collection, while a bit much, is beautiful nonetheless, and I got mine for only $20.

Since you mention Lovecraft, there's a series of stories putting Holmes in the Lovecraft universe. Shadow Over Baker Street, I believe. There's even a pc game about it, The Awakening.
