So the soldiers whose funerals they were picketing were gay, then?
I answered your question "what do they picket for besides being gay", so why are you being an arse about me pointing out that isn't all that Phelps and his clade of twats throw tantrums over besides somebody biting the pillow? That seems strange behaviour, particular given you're claiming to be aware of that one already.

On this Sunday's picket schedule for WBC directly from their website:

Orchard Road Christian Center in Greenwood Village, CO

June 17, 2012 10:00 AM - 11:00 AMWBC to picket the Orchard Road Christian Center. This so-called church states to believe that The Word Works. Furthermore, that all scripture was devinely inspired and is the final authority in all things. Ummm...What part of NO WOMEN PREACHERS is difficult to understand?!

Soooo... you have a woman Sr. Pastor - how exactly does that show faithfulness to your belief that scripture is the final authority in all things. Oops. They thought no one would catch that little faux pas. You can't preach any truth up in that place when you are ignoring that fundamental! It is just as all the other churches of this day, though. If you actually believe the words and follow the words, you would have no parishoners and the pastors would lose their paychecks. We can't be having that, now can we?

You don't have to be gay to earn a picket from the WBC... you just have to be a "fag enabler" like a (hetero) soldier who fights for evil, gay tolerating, America.

From what I know about the WBC, the only thing you have to do to get on their shit list is NOT be one of them.

Phelps is 87? Further proof it's the good that die young.
Although on the upside surely Jesus will be
calling him home soon. He seems to be dragging
his feet a bit.
This whole thing with Phelps is a racket.
There is no church per se. It's just Phelps
and his eleven or so kids several of who
are lawyers.
They picket military funerals because of the
emotional reaction it gets. They want people
to try and stop them so they can sue them.
I'm sure he hates gay people but morality
isn't what's driving him it's greed and
cackling pleasure in the attention it gets him.

Granted that I was joking about being gay, their funeral protests have nothing directly to do with being in the military (as someone, I forget who, appeared to suggest when I asked for what other offenses they protest).
