Yep, definitions of sane.... it reminds me of the first time I saw a violet wand.

The dom who was showing it to me was telling me what an evil painful implement it was. He demonstrated on one of his girls.
So, I ask if I could see it. Heck, I wouldn't use a new implement before I had gauged the feel on myself.
I run the wand up and down my forearm... hmmm.
I crank the sucker up to max and start using it for a backscratcher .. very effective.
Said dom's eyes got large as saucers and his girl turned white and ran from the room.

I still consider violet wands nifty but not painful.. que sera.

What I squick at is hypodermic needles... nope, it isn't the needle play, it is the fact that a sight of a hypodermic needle puts me into "first aid" mode for some reason and blows the mood of a scene for me. Decorative sterilizable stainless hat pins are another matter.

My HoH's favorite toy is the violet wand and he is very sadistic. With me, he will use it on full power and I love it. It feels awesome. Others can't take it like that. To me it feels great. There are things others love having done to them that are beyond what I can handle. People process things differently. My "oh yeah more please!" is someone else's "oh HELL NO!!"

the difference? about $15 dollars U.S.

that's what i estimate the difference in price is, between the older SSC BDSM books, and the newer RACK BDSM ones.

in any industry (yes, BDSM is an industry), people are always rehashing and repackaging old ideas with a new spin or twist.

I've always had trouble with these as definitions as for me much play hits the overlap between them and each individuals definition of what falls within one or the other or in the area of both (I tend to see them as a Ven diagram with an overlap in my head for some reason) tends to be different.

I now go for, what's been negotiated between us and what makes it work for us. Seems a whole hell of a lot easier. Although LP's comment about learning about the risks associated with certain play I believe is vital (but of course, that's my personal opinion and other people may think I'm bonkers for that, that's ok, sometimes I am bonkers)

What I've always found funny about SSC is that not a lot of people would consider what some of us do as "sane".

Most of what we do would not be considered as 'sane' or 'safe' lol.

Personally I think RACK is the clearer of the two terms.

While a lot of people will go to lengths to describe the key difference, they both essentially mean exactly the same.

In SSC the "Sane" is kinda redundant, because you can't give consent if you're insane. So it's about Consent.

Some people interpret "Safe" as meaning - "Without risk" - which seems silly to me. "Safe" is equivalent to "Risk Aware" in reality - but it's easily confused.

So... SSC is about kink that is consensual, and where everyone understands and accepts the risks.

Rather like RACK

Naturally I'll defend anyone's right to explain why they are fundamentally different
