Because of the slightly odd attitude some cultures have towards sexual activities, I think we need to re-examine how we define ourselves. Personally, I feel that, from the point of view of subs/slaves especially, BDSM isn't a sexual activity - it's a sport, in some cases an extreme sport. Now, there's a lot of advantages to this: sports are regarded as healthy, challenging physical fun; they make cool TV ads about them; sports stars get sponsorships (the mind boggles - maybe leather goods makers could sponsor me?); you win cool trophies and things; and you can discuss them openly with your family and friends. To persuade people that we're a sport, here's some proofs: * There's lots of physical activity * There's thrills and excitement * A degree of physical risk * Terms like 'scoring' and 'coming first' are used * There's a rush of adrenalin * The occasional physical injury And, let's face it, if ballroom dancing can call itself a sport - how about us? I'm imagining the sports shows on TV if BDSM was included in the coverage.... that'd beat watching the footy, that's for sure!
