The shellings, shootings and massacres, we can get. What do the people really want? Is the mood that "anything" is better? Hopeful, or helpless? Back in 2002, I rented a room from an Afghan. I had been one of about 3 people in the US (it seemed like, anyway) who opposed the invasion, and some evenings we would sit, and have a smoke. What he told me of the people and the life convinced me that every day we stayed was a tragic waste. He was offered a job, $5000 a month with all expenses paid, to serve as a Pashtun translator with the Army, and he took a few days to decide. The family ice-cream truck business wasn't doing very well (hence the renting out rooms thing), but if he went back to Afghanistan with our forces, he knew he would never be able to return, after we were driven out.

- when the "movement" started.. what people really wanted .. is some kind of freedom.. - after some time.. few hundreds dead.. the want the people responsable to be in jail. - some time ..few thousands dead.. they want the regime to fall.. & the head to leave.. - now.. they want to kill that SOB.. & others with him.. PS: I have got in & out since i was a boy.. I know what its in here.. so let me tell ya that there is non.. NON "Armed groups". what so ever.. Its in the law.. that if someone do join the "muslim brotherhood" in syria would be killed without trail...

PS: I am not on no-one side... but its the truth.. the Alawi and Shia community have did 1982... & they are doing so now..

Believe me, the accounts of Syrian officials are not treated as the real story in the West. The stories I posted links to are not discussed much at all in the mainstream media. The US has no appetite to support either Syria (as friends of Iran) militarily or even the rebels after what has happened in Afghanistan or Iraq. I'm not saying there aren't armed Shia gangs, and that all the Free Syrian Army attacks Christians. I don't know enough because people don't get good reports of the conflict in the West because journalists are banned. However, many fighters seem to be coming in from Lebanon who are fighting Assad, and Islamists like al Qaeda are also active there. Many Christians are very afraid of what is happening, and most I have heard about aren't as worried about Assad as the rebels. Listen to the Mother Agnes interview if you can access it.

you must know that (other than the Official) & another the Alawi and Shia community, Iran is not a friend...... its an enemy I know them... I know that when you walk down the street & the come facing you.. they dont care if you are older or on wheel chair.. you would have to move in order for them to pass... ( means that they think i am lower than they... same thinking as the nazi) dont you think? - if you look at things who they wore in iraq.. saddam.... but after 2003... US got what they wanted.. which is oil & "some democracy" for the puplic & left the seane for iran..... I have to ask ..... why? ..... in another words.. why did the US left the (Iraqie Christians & the Sunni Muslims) under the boots of iran... at saddam time Sunni Muslims were 63%, Christians around 23% of thr pupulation... now Sunni Muslims were 23%, Christians around 3% of thr pupulation... & Shia is 65%...... do you know that Mr. Al Maliki "P.M of iraq" do not even dare to take a piss without a permission from tehran... FACT.. on another matter 5 Iranian Revolutionary Guard, were captured & released few monthes back.. they were killing..... in here..... in the name of (Ayatollah Ali Khamenei).... & if... IF al Qaeda is active thats coz someone did invited them... & not the free ones... for sure PS: we have to stop this.. in case i am beeing watched .... ok... will pick this up later

FACT.. I agree there are major problems in Iraq today but I don't think the US let Iran get more influence deliberately. The American's approach to Iraq was a major fuck-up immediately after they beat Saddam. I didn't support the US going into Iraq at all but I think they left too soon without the country stable enough to stand on its own. They said they were involved in Syria http://www.nowlebanon.com/NewsArticleDetails.aspx?ID=408970 - some people believe Syria may turn into an indirect war between Iran (shia) and Sunni countries, which is spreading a bit to Lebanon as well.

The difficulties of reporting the ongoing tragedy of Syria are immense and there is good reason to be skeptical about the quality of information being published.
