Obama Trade Document Leaked, Revealing New Corporate Powers And Broken Campaign Promises

WASHINGTON -- A critical document from President Barack Obama's free trade negotiations with eight Pacific nations was leaked online early Wednesday morning, revealing that the administration intends to bestow radical new political powers upon multinational corporations, contradicting prior promises.

The leaked document has been posted on the website of Public Citizen, a long-time critic of the administration's trade objectives. The new leak follows substantial controversy surrounding the secrecy of the talks, in which some members of Congress have complained they are not being given the same access to trade documents that corporate officials receive.

"The outrageous stuff in this leaked text may well be why U.S. trade officials have been so extremely secretive about these past two years of [trade] negotiations," said Lori Wallach, director of Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch in a written statement.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) has been so incensed by the lack of access as to introduce legislation requiring further disclosure. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) has gone so far as to leak a separate document from the talks on his website. Other Senators are considering writing a letter to Ron Kirk, the top trade negotiator under Obama, demanding more disclosure.

Same story, without the Huff n Poo advertising load time

quote:

Under the agreement currently being advocated by the Obama administration, American corporations would continue to be subject to domestic laws and regulations on the environment, banking and other issues. But foreign corporations operating within the U.S. would be permitted to appeal key American legal or regulatory rulings to an international tribunal. That international tribunal would be granted the power to overrule American law and impose trade sanctions on the United States for failing to abide by its rulings.

Hmm a Vice President making deals with energy companies based in the US during a decent economy vs bestowing radical new political powers, and turning over legislation to international courts as opposed to American courts upon multinational corporations, contradicting prior promises...

Nah there's nothing to worry about in Owners fantasy world. Obama is still the bestest President evah, there's nothing wrong with the economy, and there were no American tanks in Iraq,

A vice president making secret deals with multinational corporations....

A president making secret deals with governments that will under the auspices of treaty be sent to the congress for advise and consent before they are ratified....

One of these is constitutional, one is not, I will leave it as an exercise to the reader.....

Has anyone read the leaked document, cuz the yellow journalism doesn't quite match the contents of the document (I have read it, and don't like it, I think the corporations doing business there, that on  a military junta and nationalization, they have to take their lumps, but I am a fuck em sort of guy).

I'm curious if this, 'Public Citizen' can show evidence beyond their word, that this document does indeed come from the White House. Since any college freshman studying political science could have come up with this 52 page document in a semester or two. That's the first question that should be answered; is the credibility of information factual and true?

The second question is, who here among us, as read the actual document? Since its 52 pages, that should give some of you any idea of WHO has already read it...

Third, can we discuss said information in said, 52 page PDF document, as learned and studied adults on the merit of the content or not? Not where it comes from, or whom its by, but on what the document seeks to do/change? I hold my doubts, as most poster will never read the document in the first place.

It's not, but if I would have posted a Fox news or Heritage Foundation website, we know what would have happened, right?

Exactly, Rob. Presenting them with unpleasant information from media that openly slants their way is a cheap and fun way to strip them of their first line of reflexive defense. They can't go for an immediate hijack, by ranting against the source.

Huff n Poo, though is so cluttered with crap, it takes forever to load. I just snipped a bit of your clip into Google, and was reading the story, long before the links for "win a dinner with Obama," raffle tickets would have been active on Arianna's Sweatshop.

You totally missed my point. If you claim that something isn't reputable media one day, you look a bit silly when you cite that same source the next day trying to make a point.
If you're inconsistent like that, you automatically lose credibility.

Care to reconcile that with your own bashing of Fox News, and comments that you saw such and such being reported there, Hill?

Do I need to turn the <Sarcasm font> off and on for you to understand it?

Generally when I cite FOX, it's to point out their total lack of "Fair and Balanced" and their marketing plan that understands that basically half the people in the US are of below average intelligence. If you can rope all them in, the ratings will skyrocket.
Don't believe me on the idiocy of a large part of of the American public? Check out the ratings of "Masterpiece theater" vs "Jersey Shore".

I have read the document in its entirety, and will tell you this, 12.4 para 1 and 2 and 12.5 para 1 and 2 and those vomitoriums are repeated elsewhere throughout the document does not match, and in fact denies the yellow journalism associated with it.

We will not be forced to buy rotten kiwis from the Aussies, nor malformed straw hats from Peru.

If you have noticed the offhand news about Cam Ranh Bay, in VietNam, my inferrence of that documents contents is that we are thinking about investing there, and looking for some guarentees.

Show evidence or climb back under your rock.
I'll make it easy. Here's my last 50 posts mentioning FOX.

Actually, you totally missed the point of my OP, if you would have clicked my link, you would have seen it was a link to the BB King masterpiece, The Thrill Is Gone.

My whole point was how bad things must be for Obama if even the Huffpo is writing negative articles about him. It had nothing to do with the topic in the article, that was just the catalyst for the left media turning on the President.

If you pay close attention to the OP, you'll notice I haven't offered an opinion on the secret meetings... Until Owner brought up ancient history.
