OK- I have a bite...maybe 2.

Once I express interest, how long should I give it?

[on paper I am moving to 3 different states- time for phone time]

Don't know....
I met my first dom while serving in the Air Force...we spent ten good years together.  When he was being transferred overseas I asked for a release.  He wanted marriage and I knew he was not the marriage that would make me happy the rest of my life.
I then set out online to find my "perfect" dom.  After literally thousands of people I realized perfect does not exist.
The longest I ever spoke to anyone online before meeting was 2.5 years.  That was because he lived in Texas and I in California.  Between both of us travelling for work our paths never crossed.
Met further away people long before him.  Though, in the end those living further away I didn't mesh with real well.
I do have about 3 best friends at the moment.  Two of those I consider best friends are those who I was actually speaking to, to be my dom at one point.
The other well, he is my current dom.
So, my best answer for you is..be your own best judge.  Do they sound sincere?  Are they offering you something you can live with in reality?
Make more than a single trip to see if you are truly compatible when you have more to do than listen to mere words.
I knew exactly what I was looking for, yet it still took me almost a full 5 years to find him.
So, dont ever lose hope.

Not sure I understand the question.

In general I give it a week.  After that, they get pushed low on the priority listing and unless something special happens, they stay that way.

Interesting. It is now 3 years, Brian, I guy I met in chat and I have talked on phone. Our calls easily are 5 hours. He liked that I did not ASL or ask him his cock size. It was 6 months before I knew he was a top/dom.  We have never had phone or cyber sex. So I thought- this is what a man is. [marriage material] Based on our good communcations. I would like him or his calibur. [but] he is 1200 miles away.  no flights there. I asked 2x to confirm dates on me coming down. He never comfirmed. [he took his break up harder then he let on]  A few weeks back, I went into a monalog with him [just as my sleepin pill was kicking in]  He agrees we should face to face- to see how it would go. Early on- I had his full name, his adress, home work and cell number.

Thinking this thru- I am thinking- something will always get in the way. We all were gooing to go camping in may 2006. Those plans still waiting...argh. So ...and I dont mean this the wrong way...but one of his parents will pass, his life in general will have something come up- that- pushes me out.

I am completely off point here. [yikes]

PA residency is everything to me. I would not change my permanet state of residence

So- color me a snowbird.

It isnt that I  must have brian, but his calibur of a man.

you see?

When I used to be in sales, long, long, LONG ago,  we had a saying which I think is equally true in any kind of dating/relationships search.

"You live for the yese's, and can tolerate the no's, but the maybe's will kill you every time."

It sure seems like you've given it the time it deserves, so it seems it must be something else.  The fact that something "will always get in the way" seems to be a warning sign.

Sometimes people will engage in what seems like a real relationship with someone safely far away.  When that person seeks to reduce the distance, it threatens whateve fanciful world that has been constructed, and the object of affection balks...  Not saying this is the case, but perhaps there are things he's not telling you.

Ever thought of just showing up   ....."Surprise!!"

(btw, not so pissy this morning, am I?)

I have in fact thought of just showing up. I know from past mistakes that I said alot of maybes. You see, if I promise to do something, I intend to follow thru.  So I dont like to have ppl disappointed or mad.  [im clunking in flings on the maybe thing too-- arghh, my big mouth!]

Brian had been a mechanic at a garage- so- showing up would have been ok. NOw he works a swing shift at a boot camp. [imagine that! lol]

I finally know- that- it doesnt matter how badly you want or chase another person, if they dont want you- it wont work. One also can not change people. I see profiles wanting a person to move to their local...consider that the person who easily ups and moves, is possibly just out of jail, a con. or just has no life. The say both people have carreers homes- whatever- is it really fair for either one to give up all for an unknown? During a call- brian thinking out loud mentioned he shoudl move here. I pointed out feature... then later i thought- if it doesnt work it is all on me. The okie cowboy type view the east- as ----- aloof, snobby, uppity. So- after a while he seen my area isnt that way.
He collect antigues ie JUNK. and those stupid collectables. he said it would take 3 semis to haul it. I told him he lives in a dollhouse.  but then that is the uniqueness to him. masc/fem..

It is good to see you on a good day. I have had bad days-it happens. *smiles*
