farglebargle -> Republicans BAN WOMAN FROM SPEAKING! (6/15/2012 4:17:05 AM)

http://crooksandliars.com/karoli/michigan-state-legislators-ban-female-reps-

"female representatives tried to introduce an amendment that would have the same rules apply to vasectomies, and Rep. Lisa Brown had this to say: "I'm flattered that you're all so concerned about my vagina. But no means no.""

"House Republicans didn’t take it well. “What she said was offensive,” said Rep. Mike Callton (R-Nashville). “It was so offensive, I don’t even want to say it in front of women. I would not say that in mixed company.”"

So, for the record, the Republicans find the word VAGINA offensive, and if you use it you will be silenced.

The REPUBLICAN WAR ON WOMAN CONTINUES UNABATED.

Yeah, the dirtbag!! The only thing that Rep. Callton could have been talking about was the word "vagina!" There's no way that she could have been saying anything else, like, "No means no, and since you have continued, you are, in effect, raping me."

Maybe he's offended by that word and would much rather use the word "pussy," "cunt," or "phallic receptacle."

Here's a more readable, less slanted version: Yahoo version.

Note that two women were gagged, not one, although the way the article was written, confusion isn't surprising.

Deliena -> RE: Republicans BAN WOMAN FROM SPEAKING! (6/15/2012 5:24:15 AM)

That's lunacy. How can a debate on breast cancer take place then? Or on heaven forbid testicular cancer? As was mentioned above, the word used was anatomical rather than slang and as the representative states in the article DS links it effectively prevents her from performing her job. Perhaps she should consider an employment tribunal for constructive dismissal? At least then it would keep the debate in the news and as far as I can see if she can't debate it on the floor where it belongs then the debate has to be taken wider.

I can't imagine it would be the same in the UK parliament, pretty much the only reason you can be told to stop speaking is if you are out of order in the committee sense and the Speaker instructs you or if you behave outside of the Parliamentary conduct rules (e.g. accuse another MP of lying) even if that happens you're only asked to leave for that session and told to come back and apologise.

Too many C***s and not enough vaginas! again

subrob1967 -> RE: Republicans BAN WOMAN FROM SPEAKING! (6/15/2012 9:45:15 AM)

And now... The REST of the story...

quote:

"It was a rather common practice when House Democrats had control and would not recognize any Republicans to speak," Adler said.

The Democrats were just as up in arms about why they were prohibited from speaking as they were that their speaking privileges were being revoked.

"If they are going to legislate my anatomy, I see no reason why I cannot mention it," Brown said of her choice to use the word "vagina."

But Adler insisted Brown was not being reprimanded because of the word, but rather because of the context, which he said was "inappropriate."

So now that the shoe is on the other foot, and the republicans have the majority, Progressives want to whine... Fucking hypocrites.

It seems to be working[;)] Just look at election results since November 2010.

tazzygirl -> RE: Republicans BAN WOMAN FROM SPEAKING! (6/15/2012 1:17:04 PM)

Might be surprising to you that there are states that have in place the laws to effectively continue with legal abortions even if Roe is overturned.

Wise words, Mr. farglebargle. Clearly there is a war on women by the GOP and clearly, after watching the GOP Convention, women are in second place with the GOP and the GOP continues to suppress women speakers and their entry into Governerships and Senate races and speaking of race, they are racists hate mongers especially preventing black women from being Secretary of State and from speaking.

Yes. Clearly a war on women by the GOP. Thank you for your insight into this area of concern and your words of clarity and of wisdom.
