N.C. Senate Passes Measure to Ban Planning for Accelerated Sea-Level Rise
Jun 13, 2012; 9:13 AM ET

State senators in North Carolina yesterday approved a measure prohibiting state officials from considering accelerated sea-level rise when creating rules for housing developments and infrastructure projects like bridges.

I'll bet they favor "big government" guaranteeing coastal flood insurance and emergency funds though.

Why levels are rising is debatable. Not *that* they are rising. This is irresponsible. People will die.

I think they should add a rider refusing all future federal bailouts to prove their faith.

And I think beach residents should find a home in another state.

Seems like fiscal common sense is spreading East from Wisconsin.

I wish the "Gales of November" would resolve things like this, but not so far.

Then they are truely fucked, still in the hole and got another how many million in debt over recalls, and they just set themselves on the very low track for the future of education in their state.

They are never gonna go beyond cheese and beer

Or just silly igorance of scientific evidence, while playing with people's lives and property. One good Hurricane 5 storm (like Katrina) or a major seismic shift on the North Atlantic plate, will show those NC-20 members how foolish they were (NC-20, being the twenty communities along the Atlantic coastline). And when it does happen, I'm sure those 'Republicans' will hold to their 'conservative principles' and not ask for a penny in federal aid or agencies to help out (like FEMA).

I've been in Hatteras Village when there was a spring high tide that combined with an offshore wind producing a seiche in Pamlico Sound. The net result was 2 feet of water in main street. Even with only the 9" sea level rise theyre counting on, without some serious planning, they're fucked.

How is that fiscal common sense?
