I often browse the new members (I'm, like, probably the ONLY one).

Saw a "new member" who is a genuine player/liar.  Have experienced the load of crap she dishes, as have two others here whose veracity I trust (they know who they are).

Since posting negative comments about a specific user is verboten, I wondered if there are people out there who would like to compare notes via email.

To do so, it makes the most sense to limit it geographically.  So, I'm interested in doing so with those in CA.   Just think it sucks when people waste honest people's time with their lies and posing.

Probably won't work, will it?

ehh... probably not on a long term basis, no.

however, it is a good idea.

*edited for an afterthought - Although... when you think about it, unless someone is brand new to this whole "lifestyle".... I'll bet everyone has been called a player at least once by a bitter ex... even if not to their face (this is in a general reference, btw, no disrespect meant)*

One would hope not.

After all, what's to stop anyone from putting your name on the list?

This sort of thing is elitist gossip at its worst.

I was going to ask whose list you would find yourself on, if this sort of thing was common practice, but LuckyAlbatross beat me to it. We're all of us phonies to someone out there, just like each of us is probably the One Real True Toe-Curler to someone out there.

There are already such "off-site" groups - you just have to gain someone's trust to be invited in.

So yeah, it's high school all over again...

i might have thought it sounded like a good idea if i had not been recently told via email that i was a disappointment because He did not believe that i even had a Master.
::shrug::
Good thing i don't need Anyone else's approval but Master's.
Still the email left me scratching my head.
And i beleive there are a lot of players and phonies ... there are also those, i think, that may not really be players but are not commited to the lifestyle and want to find others of that level of involvement and there is nothing wrong with that either.
So, while i understand the frustration ... it probably wouldn't work.

So...I looked up "Slave Network" on google, and all that came up is how to multi-file a system. Didn't see no stinkin list.

This was the most obvious reply to expect.  Thanks for not disappointing me.

While it's true, anyone can call anyone a name, it doesn't mean that some people aren't in fact absolutely false, with bad intentions.  In another context, they would be called sociopaths and predators.

When someone has repeatedly exhibited this behavior, and it has been confirmed by others independantly, then it seems like a good neighbor thing to do in letting others know.

And if my good name gets dragged through the mud, it's up to me to defend it, or take the heat.  I'm not worried about that at all, comes with the territory.

Thanks for those who treated it seriously.

Beyond the fact that such lists are often a vehicle for abuse, in my mind there is no replacement for intuition and common sense. No list in the world will ever be a worthy substitute for sound judgment.

Well, regardless if we do or don't think it's gossip, there are legal remifications to think about. It could be considered slander...although, there's the defense that you were slandering a fake online persona.

I've participated in a lot of "how do we police ourselves?" conversations, too. Idealistically, its a super idea. However, it really doesn't work unless we have some governing body that will enforce it. And, since we can't even get the gay, lesbian, bi and het groups together to play nice, good luck creating a governing body for the kink community.

In the end, what we have to rely on are ourselves and our freinds. I suggest a private email list of your freinds so that you all can compare notes. I know a lot of people who do that.

That sounds very high-minded.  Perhaps you'd care to expound at greater length on the essential components of good judgement?  Better yet, I'd be interested in knowing what your idea of "common sense" is.  Is it, in fact, all that common?

Sheesh!

Sheesh!

Anyone who would be willing to have an email list of cyber strangers decide for them how they feel about someone else is lacking in good judgement.

One of the components of good judgement is getting all the information that one can from as many perspectives as one can.  Just using a list of random, self-selected participants is hardly getting all the information.

I think that apart from the obvious (slander/false accusations... etcetcetc) there is one vital componant you have ignored.

People cannot learn about themselves through living vicariously.  You cannot learn how to use a whip only by reading a book.  You cannot know how a slap across the breast feels until it is done.  If we just followed like sheep - even if it was numerous people reporting the same person - how do we learn for ourselves?  Isn't this just taking the nanny-state issue a little too far?  You can teach a child that something hurts, but they will not truely know what hurt is until they experience for themselves.

I'm absolutely fascinated by this reply.  Who said they wanted to substitute someone else's judgement for theirs?  Didn't see that post at all!
